Ah Yit Imperial 阿一鸭皇阁 – Taman Sentosa, Johor Bahru, Malaysia
JB-goers might find Taman Sentosa familiar as it is one of those places in Johor Bahru that has a whole stretch of seafood restaurants popular for a late night feast.
Located along Jalan Sutera 4 in Taman Sentosa is Ah Yit Imperial Restaurant 阿一鸭皇阁 that comes highly recommended by a friend of mine. The Chinese restaurant is situated slightly off the main road, among the residential area. They specialise in Char-roast meats, especially in herbal ducks.
While speaking to the restaurant manager, we were surprised to find out that they used to be consultant for our local brand Dian Xiao Er 店小二 which also serves herbal ducks.
I had initially thought Ah Yit Imperial is affiliated to Ah Yat Abalone in Singapore too, but no.
Just to be clear, Ah Yit imperial is an independent brand in Malaysia.
We had two portions of the duck; Duck Roasted With Angelica Herbs 当归烤鸭 and Duck With Wild Ginseng 泡参烤鸭 at RM18 per quarter. The ducks arrived with glistening charred skin and tender meats, fully coated in their respective sauces. Each bite was filled with flavours and a little sweetness.
With the addition of the concocted herbs, it is known to benefit the body in many ways too.
The Angelica Herbs helps in promoting circulation, boosting your body immunity and digestion.
As for the Ginseng, it helps to replenish your energy level, reduce stress and treat insomnia.
Besides the two types mentioned, Ah Yit Imperial also offers Duck Roasted With Ten Wonder Herbs 十全烤鸭 RM18 per quarter and Herbal Roasted Drumstick 药材烤鸭腿 RM13 on the menu.
Each quarter portion is actually just nice for one to two pax sharing.
There are quite a variety of vegetable dishes to choose from and the Deep Fried Kailan With Floss 肉松炸芥蓝RM18.30 did not disappoint at all. I thoroughly enjoyed having a bowl of rice paired with the little crispy bits of kailan and floss.
We also ordered one of their signature Marmite Boxing Chicken 妈蜜铁公鸡 RM22.60 which wasn’t commonly found in Singapore. The chicken was fried till the skin became crunchy and glazed in this savoury umami sauce. It was addictive and not too oily.
Braised Shark’s Fin Broth With Conpoy 干贝鲜蟹翅 RM26.30 can serve six small bowls and contain a generous amount of ingredients. Very tasty and affordable.
Sea Bird Nest With Wild Ginseng 野山人参海燕窝 RM8 was a sweet beverage which appeared more apt as a dessert. Quite refreshing too.
Dining at Ah Yit Imperial 阿一鸭皇阁 was a great choice we had made. Not only was the food delicious, service was cordial and prompt. For the three of us, we spent RM148.30 which was equivalent to SGD 47.55. Given the amount and quality of food, this was definitely one of the most affordable meals we had in Johor Bahru.
