Caffé Beviamo at Tanglin Mall – Affordable Aussie Food & Desserts
If you are looking for an affordable healthy meal, gluten-free pastas and resting place for your tired body in town, head over to Caffé Beviamo, snugly situated at level 2 of Tanglin Mall.
This spacious cafe faces an open kitchen where chefs can be seen whipping up dishes upon order and pretty cakes on dessert stands lined the table top.
Caffé Beviamo serves Australian-inspired meals with a straightforward menu boosting a selection of all day breakfasts, soup of the day, salads to heartier mains such as sandwiches, pastas and pizzas for sharing. End off with some sweet treats like cakes and cookies starting from $1.50+.
The good thing about Caffé Beviamo is that your dietary restriction will be well taken care of.
You can be assured that the coffees, teas and hot chocolates are all organic and so does your food which come preservative-free. There’s even gluten-free options for the muesli and maccheroni pasta. For small eaters, you can require for ‘half portions‘ (not for all items), but yes they do try to accomodate. How good does this sounds!
I love breads and my eyes lit up at the sight of the Turkish Toast or Organic Wholemeal Toast $6.5 with a choice of vegemite, peanut butter, strawberry jam or marmalade. You don’t find vegemite so easily made available nowadays on the menu. Hence, we jumped at the opportunity to order this. Bread was crusty and the butter and vegemite was a smooth and savoury spread across.
Smoked Salmon Salad $18 was served with carpaccio-styled salmon on a bed of mesclun, topped with cascading chopped eggs and a side of lemon wedge and olive oil. It’s good that you can control the amount of dressing that goes into your salad. Add a little lemon zest to it and this will make a nice meal for weight-watcher.
It is a tough choice to decide on a sandwich when they come in various fillings such as beef, caprese, egg, ham and tuna etc.
Nonetheless, we tried the Chicken Sandwich $16.50. Layered between two ciabatta bread were poached chicken breast, melted cheese, basil pesto and zucchini. Protein-packed and great for after-gym workout. Taste could get a little one-dimension and that said, I would love to have some crunchy bell peppers or mangos stuffed within.
The 9 inch Garlic Prawn Pizza $15 was finger-licking good with a thin crispy crust topped with prawns, garlic, tomato, red chilli, parsley and a sprinkle of lemon oil. It was both cheesy and crunchy, and we got several pieces of prawns for a pizza this size.
We also had a Prawn Pasta $15 cooked aglio alio with garlic and parsley. The smell was heavenly when the dish arrived to our table. Again, they were generous with the prawns.
The Gnocchi with a simple tomato sauce $15 was prepared exactly like its name. Carb-loaded, the gnocchi was slightly chewy and on the tougher side. I was glad the tomato sauce added a little zing to it. But overall, it’s a love-hate relationship with this dish.
The Lamingtons $3.50 was a squarish cake, moist with a chocolatey coating dusted with shredded coconut. Good and light.
Sticky Date Pudding $7.50 didn’t disappoint either with a scoop of vanilla ice cream to balance the sweetness of the sauce. It was sinful and best for sharing.
Here’s the menu!
Caffé Beviamo is a quiet respite from the hustle and bustle of city life. It is cozy and feels like a safe haven for meet-ups, chatting or to work on your laptop. Price-point, the food, beverages and desserts are comparatively more affordable than most cafes. What a hidden gem.
