Capitol Milk Bar – American Dining with Hotdogs, Burgers & Crazy Milkshakes at The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore

Back in the 1960s, The Magnolia Snack Bar used to be in the old Capitol Building where it was a favourite haunt among kids and dating couples in the era. It closed in the late 1980s and is now brought back as the Capitol Milk Bar in The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore. 

Capitol Milk Bar’s menu has items named after famous figures with relations to the history of the old Capitol Building and the theatre. The menu offers juicy burgers, up to 1-meter long hotdogs and sandwiches, alongside signature milkshakes and ice cream.

Hotdogs

Prices of hotdogs range between $9 to $15 with the Classic New Yorker $9 bearing a juicy pork sausage topped with mustard, ketchup, cucumber relish and crispy onions, and the Rio Rita $15 that comes with spicy beef sausage, arugula, chilli con carne and melted mozzarella cheese, accompanied with a side of tangy tomato salsa and crispy sweet potato fries.

 

Sandwich

Looking for a crustacean feast? The Ava Gardner $22 features a mix of Greenland shrimp with cocktail mayonnaise stuffed in between a lightly toasted brioche roll, while avocado chunks spread precariously over the fillings. Our favourite side of crispy sweet potato fries completes the dish on a satisfactory note.

 

Burgers

For burgers and sandwiches, there are options for bread between the charcoal brioche bun, multi-grain bun or sesame wheat bun. 

The charcoal brioche bun is well-received among us and you can have this with the Stamford $18, loaded with pulled pork, arugula, pickled cucumber, yuzu cabbage slew and apple butter barbecue sauce.

The Capitol $19 comes highly recommended with 150 grams of juicy Black Angus beef patty pressed between fried egg omelette, cheddar and flavoursome black pepper mushroom sauce.

As for the accompanying side, it includes a choice of salad greens, curly fries or sweet potato fries.

 

Small Plates and Sides

Have a go with the Capitol Milk Bar Mac & Cheese $10, Spicy Chicken Wings $13 and Chicken Breast Tenders $10 which are good for sharing too.

 

Milkshakes and Sundaes

Leave some space for these ice cream desserts such as the Capitol Milk Bar Banana Split $15, Profiteroles $13 and fancy-looking Knickerbocker Glory $15 layered with salted caramel ice cream, fruit compote, maraschino cherry, burnt meringue and raspberry coulis.

Relish in five types of over-the-top signature milkshakes $14 from the chocoholic Milo Dino Milkshake and Strike Me Pink Strawberry Milkshake to chendol-inspired Singapore Dash Milkshake topped with the familiar sights of red bean, pandan jelly and coconut flakes.
