Cold Storage Christmas Grazing Table Guide: How to Prep and Style for the perfect feast
Wow your guests this Christmas with an amazing grazing table filled with scrumptious festive delights! Create a feast that’s vibrant, abundant and appetizing for your loved ones.
So recently, I took up the challenge to create my own Grazing Table with festive products and fresh produce from Cold Storage.
This month, Cold Storage has launched the Christmas Food & Gift Guide which is available for pre-orders online/in-store till 20 December 2019. What’s on the menu are hearty meats (whole turkeys, ham, ribs) and party platters with varieties such as antipasto, cheese, wraps and sausages. The selection looks fabulous and perfect for any occasions anyone might be having before the year ends.
Of which, we tried the Supreme Christmas Feast $89.95 which had us drooling over the hearty meat offerings (Spanish Iberico Ham 1KG, gourmet Spanish Iberico Sausages 1.2KG, Spanish Iberico Jumbo Ribs 1.7KG). Additionally, top it off with sides such as the Continental Air Dried Salami Platter $29.95 and Antipasto Party Platter $19.95 for a superb complete feast.
It was my first time prepping a grazing table for my family and it was quite exciting (and challenging)!
Tips for a beautiful Grazing Table
Grazing Table: 80cm x 60cm (Actual table needs to be bigger than this)
Items included but not limited to:
- Charcuterie Platter
- Turkey Legs
- Freshly Baked Bread, Flatbreads, Bread Sticks
- Artisan cheese
- Nuts (Almonds, Cashew, Walnuts)
- Fruits (Berries, Cherries, Figs)
- Vegetables (Kale, Alfafa, Capsicums, Tomatoes, Butternut Squash)
- Wholesome dips (Spicy Red Pepper, Eggplant, Basil Pesto)
- Seasoning (Parsley, Red Peppercorns)
Items Prepared:
- Smoked salmon with trout caviar canapes (These are really simple to make at home!)
There are many other items one could bring to the table as well, such as avocado toast, cranberry ham and cheese sandwiches and more.
Styling
Probably the most challenging and fun part, I really look forward to this step!
To be honest, I didn’t have much of a plan in mind. What I do know is the main highlights/ingredients/platters have to be placed in position first for the rest of the stuff to go in.
What I consider highlights are items which are big and eye-catching, such as the hearty meats, platters, homemade canapes/sandwiches. Since I am doing a vertical grazing table, I positioned these highlights from top down.
Then, there are all the smaller items called fillers like cherry tomatoes, vegetables, nuts and fruits. These fillers go in between the gaps, and surround the highlights.
Furthermore, if you have bottles of seasoning (like parsley) in hand, sprinkle some over the platters to make it look more 3D and lively.
Theme
Since the theme is on Christmas, feel free to dress up the grazing table with Christmas decorations and festive delights such as roasts, hams and sausages too.
Colours
Colours are really important. Of course, it will depend on your theme. But I like mine to be temptingly styled and bursting with tasty colours! Hence, the choice of ingredients which are bright (and that would include the use of fruits, tomatoes and leafy greens).
Ingredients
A huge grazing table that is not only a feast to the eye, but to the belly too, might come with a hefty price tag (or maybe not so). Hold that thought. Not all the items you bought are perishable and some can be kept for days/weeks before consumption too!
I make a rare splurge this time at Cold Storage. The better quality produce will definitely make your grazing table looks better without the blemishes.
Before you start shopping for the groceries, make a list of the products (and gauge the amount) you might need for the table. Trust me, while you are laying the table and filling up the spaces, you will just go by feel. There’s no right or wrong in whichever way you place the ingredients.
Still unsure of what to get, you can pop by the Cold Storage outlets at Parkway Parade and Great World City on the 7 and 8 December respectively for some sampling of the festive items!
