Daeyoung Hotel 대영호텔, Seoul – Near Myeongdong Shopping Street and Namdaemun Market

Daeyoung Hotel 대영호텔 is a 3-star accommodation in Seoul with great location accessibility and wallet-friendly room rates.

It is situated along an alley near Hoehyeon station. It can be quiet at night but the area feels quite safe. There is a CU convenience store just round the corner too.

Various dining establishments and popular districts like Myeongdong Shopping Street and Namdaemun Market are within walking distance.

There are also malls such as the upscale Shinsegae Department Store, Lotte Young Plaza, Lotte Department Store and LOTTE Mart ZETTAPLEX for shopping and grocery hauls.

Some recommended places nearby include Jungang Galchi (for braised cutlassfish), Odarijip (for soy marinated raw crabs), Sulbing (for bingsu) and DAILY BEER (for craft beers and fried chicken), as well as lifestyle brand Wiggle Wiggle Zip.

The receptionist is friendly and able to converse in English.

The hotel has a common room where you can help yourself to the water dispenser (with ice), microwave, coffee/tea sachets and sweets. It also doubles as a baggage storage area.

I stayed six nights in the Economy Double Room (No Window) at around SGD70 plus per night. The room has no windows as it is in the basement. Booking is done via Expedia.

The room is quite tight and good for solo travellers.

What surprises me is the quality and quantity of room amenities provided to ensure the comfort of every guest.

They include a USB cable that can connect to various gadgets, two full boxes of tissue (which is very generous), shaver cream (two types) and razors, insect repellent, decent body wash and shampoo and a flat-screen TV with multiple channels. The wifi and air conditioning work well.

The only bothersome thing is the difficulty of adjusting the water temperature for showers. It either gets too hot or too cold.

Additionally, there is not much space to lay open a big suitcase.

Housekeeping is available daily and the items are replenished well.

Overall, it is a satisfactory stay which I would check in next time.
