In all eagerness, I decided to try this new function at one of the hawker stalls – Lin Ji Western & Ban Mian Fish Soup. The stall sells a huge variety of local favourites ranging from noodles, fish soup, la mian to seafood soup, dumplings, oyster omelette, carrot cake and Hokkien mee.

Another section of the stall serves Western cuisine where you can get pork chop, chicken chop, half spring chicken with fries, nuggets and potato wedges.

The Scan to Pay notice is placed right at the counter. It is easy to recognise.

I ordered the Tom Yum Seafood Soup $4.50 and Oyster Omelette $7 for takeaway $0.20.

The total was $11.70.

Opening the DBS Paylah! app, I scan the QR code that’s found at the stall. Then I keyed in $11.70. Once submitted, the app will show that the transaction is successful on the screen.

It was my first time using and the process was fuss-free and took less than 15 seconds!

Oyster Omelette $7

Portion was really huge for $7. Good to pair their chilli sauce with the eggy and fluffy omelette.

Tom Yum Seafood Soup $4.50

The spicy and sour soup was filled with prawns, tofu, seaweed and fish slices. Quite reasonable for the price.
