Eat at 18 Melaka Cafe with Hot Chocolate Dip & Meringue Nest dessert

Eat at 18 is a stone’s throw away from Jonker Street in Melaka. The cafe is flanked by two alfresco, front and back, followed by a narrow indoor seating with high tables against a dimly lit setting. You can either get cosy and intimate inside or relax in the garden-esque veranda.

The cafe sells a range of food from brunch to heartier savoury items, alongside desserts and bakes.

It was tranquil on a weekday afternoon. I had the Hot Chocolate RM 12.90 served with a chocolate truffle. It reminded me of the Chinese candied hawthorn stick albeit in chocolate form. As the drink comes hot, the chocolate stick would simply melt once you dip it in. The chocolate makes the drink richer and I was glad it didn’t in any way made it sweeter.

Another dessert worth trying was the Meringue Nest with Ice Cream and Jam RM 12.90.

Sitting in a cute red pan was their in-house meringue topped with a vanilla ice cream and gooseberry. Drizzled in a glaze of passionfruit, the acerbity cuts through the sweetness of the meringue. The flavours were balanced off by the creamy ice cream that toned down both extremities. Every ingredient worked their magic around one another beautifully.
