Element at Amara Hotel – FUNOLOGY SG53 Durian Buffet with Mao Shan Wang, Local Snacks & Trishaw Ride

It’s the durian craze lately and everywhere you see are buffets offering you free-flow seeds from these thorny fruits. Besides a night of indulgence, how about an added element of fun to your dining experience too?

Element at Amara Hotel takes the durian party to another dimension, with a theme titled ‘FUNOLOGY SG53 Buffet & Durian Party‘.

On the 3rd and 9th August 2018, the alfresco of the restaurant undergoes a face-lift featuring several pop-up stores.

Take a walk down memory lane. Relieve those childhood days when you play games like Tikam Tikam, have a Trishaw Joy Ride round the premise and your photos taken and/or drawn by the Caricature artist.

There’s even the Tutu Kueh and Muah Chee push cart where you could order these snacks limitlessly. No missing out on the old-school Ice Cream that comes sandwiched between two thin wafers or rainbow bread too! Tins of biscuits and nuts towered in a corner, reminding me of cinema days when I would munch on a cone of Kacang Puteh while watching movie.

Haagen Dazs ice cream is also made available in the arena. Also, this is the place where you can find tons of huge Durian stacked majestically and temptingly. Each one is pried open on the spot and eaten fresh. The Mao Shan Wang durian is the mainstay; one of the best I have eaten by far. These were fleshy and lusciously creamy with small flat seeds. The alcoholic taste was prominent and we had several seeds thereafter. On rotation are two other varieties, so you can look out for different kinds on alternate days.

The durian buffet, on the other hand, is available from 3 August to 9 August 2018 (More details can be found at the end of post).

Relish in durian desserts such as Durian Cream Puff, Durian Pancake, Durian Cake, Durian Chendol, Durian Swiss Roll and Durian Panna Cotta.

International Buffet

Head indoors for a scrumptious international buffet of Peking Duck, Roasted Chicken and Roasted Duck, Tempura, Katsudon, Satay, Black Pepper Crayfish and Chilli Crab, to name a few.

Every buffet’s essential – the Singapore Laksa – was served hot with thick, fragrant gravy.

Freshly Cut Sashimi, Assorted Maki and Sushi are popular items. Not forgetting the Seafood on ice such as freshly shucked Oysters, Boston Lobsters, Alaskan King Crab Legs and more. I exceptionally loved the king crab legs for its juicy meatiness with hints of sweetness and salinity.

One of my all-time favourite from Element is the Chempedak Creme Brulee. I would devour this again and again.
