Geylang Lor 9 Frog Porridge 狮城芽笼九巷活田鸡, JB Malaysia – Claypot Frog and Crispy Kai Lan
The famous Geylang Lor 9 Frog Porridge 狮城芽笼九巷活田鸡 originates from Singapore and currently has outlets in Malaysia, China, Vietnam and Cambodia.
The dishes offered in Singapore and Malaysia are slightly different too.
I visited the outlet in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, about a minute’s walk from KSL City Mall. Indoor and outdoor seats are available.
The claypot frog is prepared three ways – with Dried Chilli, Spring Onion or Porridge. Pricing starts from RM16 for one frog. Meanwhile, the Garlic Frog (RM30 for two, RM42 for three) offers a crispy alternative.
Other signatures include Shi Sheng Fresh Otak Otak RM16, Bean Curd RM13, Meat Roll RM16 and Preserved Radish Omelette RM11.
The frog meat is tender. The sauces are alright but could be more flavoursome. The dried chilli version has a spicy kick to it which makes it favourable.
The Fried Hong Kong Kai Lan RM16 is crunchy, addictive and a must-order.
