Ippudo X Kuro-Obi: Singapore’s First Takeaway Ramen Kiosk And Exclusive Dishes For MBS Outlet

Kuro-Obi: Ippudo’s First Takeaway Concept In Asia

Ramen for takeaway?

Kuro-Obi is the only concept by Ippudo to offer Tori-paitan, a flavorsome chicken soup base in their ramen for takeaways. Gourmands now have the luxury of savouring pipping bowls of ramen without the need to queue long hours for seats. Especially for those who want a quick meal, Kuro-Obi’s quick service ramen will be the top choice. Kuro-Obi’s venture into foreign market was born from the great support among New Yorkers when the concept was first introduced there which then quickly escalated to countries beyond.

13th January 2017 marks the official opening of Kuro-Obi in Asia at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore to the public.

One of the highlight is that Koru-Obi Singapore is the only Ippudo outlet all over the world to offer 100% chicken broth (Tori Paitan). Instead of the pork chasiu usually found in ramen, the chicken chasiu is incorporated into the dish alongside 140 grams of noodles, which is actually 40 grams more than the usual portion given in other Ippudo outlets.

Diners can also customised their noodles according to their preferences such as by choosing the texture of noodles and richness of the soup.

There are four types of ramen available at Kuro-Obi:

Kuro-Obi ($12): Ramen with three pieces of chasiu, seaweed and an ajitama

Aka-Obi ($10): Spicy ramen with spicy shrimp floss

Cha-Obi ($9): Vegetarian ramen in vegetarian broth

Shiro-Obi ($8): Classic ramen with one piece chasiu

The noodles used in the ramen are actually thicker than the hakata-syled, chewier and absorbed the broth readily.Taste-wise, the chicken broth was lighter than a normal pork tonkotsu broth and slightly oilier. Be sure to enjoy while hot to fully savour it.

Ramen Ippudo: Exclusive Dishes For Dine-in At MBS

Located just beside Kuro-Obi is Ippudo.Ippudo fans can rejoice at the ninth Ippudo outlet set to open at Marina Bay Sands. Three ramen dishes exclusive to Singapore will be on available on the menu, together with several new side dishes. Think chicken broth Shoyu Ramen ($17), Pork-based Niku Soba ($19) and Tsukemen ($18 for 200g, $20 for 300g).

Some sides worth trying are the Goma Kyuri ($4 for small, $8 for big), showcasing a long row of chopped cucumber topped with goma sesame dressing and Gyoza ($9 for 5 pieces, $16 for 10 pieces).

My favourite was the Samurai Ribs ($7 small, $13 large). A very asian style pork rib marinated in chef’s special sauce with spices. As a personal preference, I like the meat the way it is, firm and tougher with a bit of crisp edges.

Some lighter bites aside from the meats include the Pork Bun ($5), 8 Kinds Vegetables & Goboten Salad With Tonkotsu Dressing ($7 small, $13 large) and the unique Crispy Corn ($8) fried into golden balls powdered with smoked paprika.

What would wow diners is the Almond Jelly Noodle ($6). Resembling a mini ramen, it is actually a chilled dessert made of almond jelly strands in milky soup. Rather good!
