Joe & Dough’s first full dining concept in Singapore – Signature Short Ribs Mac & Triple Cheese, Nachos Tater Tots & Cakes!
Not many people know that Joe & Dough is a homegrown cafe chain! Joe & Dough is known for their specialty coffee and handcrafted bakes but as of December 2018, they have opened a full-fledged dining concept in Holland Village. It’s a double-storey shophouse – hard to miss if you’re coming from the MRT station. We’re really excited to try their curated dining menu featuring eight all-day brunch items, eight mains, and five sides.
We had to try their signature dish, the Short Ribs Mac & Triple Cheese ($20), which uses premium marinated grain-fed beef short ribs that are sous-vide for an entire day, housed on a bed of elbow pasta! The cheese is a homemade blend of mozzarella, cheddar, parmesan, and mixed spices. The dish turned out to be as tantalizing as its description!
You can really feel the effort of that 24-hour sous vide meat. The beef short ribs were juicy and absolutely tasty! The juices and natural oil from the beef oozed into the mac and cheese, giving it a more rich flavour and punch. Who knew that mac and cheese and beef could go so well together?
The Smoked Salmon Hash with 63-Degree Eggs ($14) was quite ordinary in our opinion – we’d actually have preferred an eggs benedict with smoked salmon kind of dish. On its own, however, it’s a unique dish with the idea of tossing chopped hash together with smoked salmon and a sous vide egg. We also enjoyed the tobiko!
Next up was the Nachos Tater Tots ($9). This can act as a mid-afternoon tea snack for sharing. We loved the crisp tater tots together with the melted cheese and black olives. The sauces went very well with the dish too!
We tried two of their cakes: Their Signature Gula Melaka Pandan Cake ($6) and their Mixed Berries Mascarpone Chocolate Noel Cake ($6.90).
The Mixed Berries Mascarpone Chocolate Noel Cake is a chocolate sponge cake with light mascarpone cheese and mixed berries rolled in. The chocolate ganache was our favourite part of the cake! Unless you’re a fan of Black Forest cakes or berries, we won’t really recommend this one because its a really strong berry cake. The macaron and meringue on top were crisp and firm, not soggy (we notice this often for cakes with ‘decor’).
The Signature Gula Melaka Pandan Cake is surprisingly moist with a lovely texture and topped with munchy desiccated coconut. We liked how rich it tasted and felt overall – it must be because it’s a butter cake. We’d definitely go for this again!
We ordered two drinks: Raspberry Flavoured Latte (S- $5.50, M- $6.40, Iced- $6.60) and the Calamansi Mango Juice Cooler ($6).
While the Raspberry Flavoured Latte could have a stronger raspberry taste, the calamansi mango iced juice was a refreshing cooler which really went well with the dishes above. It’s not overly sour because of the sweetness of the mango flavour mixed with the calamansi. Also, it’s quite the fixer for a hot day out!
We’ve come to the end of our lunch. Overall, we really enjoyed the food and we’d be back for more – there are many other full meal options that we’d love to try.
