Kao Ge Yu Singapore, East Village – Chongqing Grilled Fish from $19 and tasty Mala Clams

Sichuan grilled fish restaurant, Kao Ge Yu 烤个鱼, has two outlets – East Village (Bedok) and Grantral Mall (Tai Seng).

The one at East Village is located on the exterior of the mall, with adorable fish-shaped decor on the walls and ceilings, right down to the plates used.

Kao Ge Yu offers two types of fish – Sea Bass (Small) $19 and Lin Bo Fish (Large) $29.

Flavours for the grilled fish include the Signature Sichuan Green Pepper, Chongqing, Hot Mala, Classic Sauerkraut, Thai Style, Tomato and Garlic.

Elevate the dish with vegetables and seafood such as Enoki Mushroom $3.20, Ring Rolls $4.20, Crab Sticks $4.20, Lunch Meat $4.20, Scallop $15.80, Fresh Shrimp $11.90 and even Oysters $9.90 too.

There are several side dishes, ranging from the recommended Century Tofu $7.80 and Mouth-Watering Chicken $13.80 to snacks like Golden Pumpkin Pie $6.80 and Crispy Chicken Popcorn $7.80.

Menu

I had the Chongqing grilled sea bass, served with a generous portion of enoki mushrooms, bean curd skin, scallops, baby cabbage and fried chickpeas. The sauce is not too spicy nor salty. The fish meat is pillowy soft and fresh. For a small-sized fish, it can easily feed two.

A must-order, the Mala Lala $12.80 is spicy and tasty.

The Tri-Colour Platter Side Dishes $9.90 allows a choice of three different chilled sides, which I opted for the Kelp Seaweed, Seaweed and King Oyster Mushroom. The latter comes in a spicy marinade and is delicious with a bite.

Complement the meal with a big mug of refreshing Lemon Passion Fruit Tea $5.80 too!
