Kedai Makan Jadi Baru Botak, JB – Asam Pedas Claypot Fish & Homemade Otah

This is easily one of my best meals in Johor Bahru!
Kedai Makan Jadi Baru Botak 新自立餐室 is a stone’s throw away from JB City Square. The signature asam pedas claypot fish is an absolute must, alongside other standout dishes.

News clippings line the walls, even from Singapore’s media outlets.

The menu offers a range of seafood dishes, including claypot fish, fried fish, squid, and prawns.
Menu

The Asam Pedas Ikan (RM42 Small, RM72 Medium, RM112 Large) comes with a generous amount of fish and ladyfingers. It is served bubbling hot to the table.
The sauce is robust, tangy, and seriously addictive.
The fish are chunky and tender.

The homemade Otak-Otak RM13 features a hefty slab stuffed with fish.
Each bite is satisfying.

The Lala Goreng Chili Padi RM22 isn’t really spicy. The clams are meaty and juicy, while the broth is light and enjoyable.
