Le Cheng Hainanese Chicken Rice brings a taste of Hainan to Singapore, through its carefully crafted menu of authentic Hainanese specialties,
Helmed by founder Ah Seng, who created the brand Gu Zao Ren which sells Taiwanese porridge, this new restaurant venture reflects his deep-rooted love for Hainanese food.
Dig into the fragrant Kampong Chicken Rice and other traditional Hainanese dishes such as the Salted Braised Duck (from $16), Hainan Chap Chye ($15/$20) and signature claypot series – Hainanese Mutton Soup ($25/$35/$45), White Pepper Chicken Soup ($28/$48) and Hainanese Coconut Chicken Soup ($28/$48).

The Kampong Chicken is available a la carte and in sets, from $6. A quarter plate of chicken is priced from $12.
The chicken rice is cooked in homemade chicken broth and then infused with specially flavoured chicken oil. The moist, savoury rice is complemented with succulent chicken slices and their soft slippery skin.
Even the chilli and ginger condiments are meticulously prepared by blending various ingredients. The chilli is not too spicy while the ginger adds a little zest and texture to the dish.
Also, as part of the claypot series, the Curry Fish Head $35 comes brimming with ingredients like beancurd skin, beancurd puff and ladyfinger.
The highlight is in the stew which is thick, creamy and flavourful.
Add-ons are available at $4 each with choices like Vermicelli, Chinese Cabbage, Seaweed, Yam, Enoki Mushroom and White Tofu.
As both restaurants, Le Cheng Hainanese Chicken Rice and Gu Zao Ren Taiwan Porridge, are situated side by side, diners can also cross-order.
Featured here are the Fried Kang Kong Belachan $10, Hot Plate Bean Curd $12 and Fried Sambal Clams $14.
Flavours are homely and portions are good for sharing.
