Mad About Sucre: French Patisserie Cafe With Dainty Cakes
Mad about Sucre is a beautiful cafe with a wide range of offerings such as cakes, confections, high tea set and French dining. Diners can also pair their meals with fine wines and champagnes for an elevated experience.
The interior reminds me of a Mad Tea Party spun off from Alice in Wonderland. The bold colour-striking chairs around a white table can seat a bigger group of roughly 5-6 pax. The wall beside it is decorated from floor to ceiling with displays of Mad about Sucre’s pretty tiered cakes. I couldn’t ask for anything more than to start indulging.
A slice of cake starts from S10 and above; each one delicately crafted using the finest ingredients and carried out with French classical confection techniques. What’s best is you can indulge seamlessly as the cakes contain 60% less sugar too!
The cakes are seasonal, hence they change quite often in the year. For Spring, there are five kinds of cakes arranged in increasing flavour intensity at the display counter. For starters, I had the lightest cake of all – Castile ($12.80) with an add-on of $7.90 for a pot of tea.
Castile
Yogurt Mousse, Spring Lychee, Strawberry, Rhubarb, Blueberry, Honey Sponge, White Chocolate Feather
The lightest cake among all five with a sourish mousse texture filled with a layer of blueberry and jelly. Upon served, I was told how the the different layers would come together to create an intricate play on the tastebud. Lovely.
Some other desserts I have my eyes on are:
Viburnum
On-season Pistachios, Sour Cherry, Pistachios Tuile
San Domingue
Dark Chocolate Mousse, Rum, Caramelized Plantain, Britny Crunch
I have heard this is rather good with its rich intensity.
Besides the cakes, Mad about Sucre also does customised cakes for occasions like birthday celebrations or weddings etc. There is also lunch, high tea and dinner served here. Service is warm and friendly as well.
