Palm Beach Seafood Restaurant at One Fullerton celebrates 65th year with new seafood dishes
Opened some 65 years ago, Palm Beach Seafood Restaurant is a time-honoured establishment that put the now-classic Chilli Crab on Singapore’s food map. Now operating out of a gorgeous riverfront space at Fullerton Bay, the restaurant invites customers old and new to take a delicious trip down memory lane with its 1956 menu.
Savour the best of Palm Beach’s specialties which have retained their price points through the years. To start, the Singapore Rojak ($12) will capture diners’ attention with its creative presentation in a banana leaf cone. Its propriety sauce of shrimp paste, tamarind paste, and sugar elevates the whole dish, while the century egg pieces are certainly a unique feature. Another appetiser taken straight from Singapore’s street food scene is the Fried Kang Kong with Cuttlefish (from $18), served chilled.
The award-winning Coco Lobo also makes its appearance in the 1956 menu. This wallet-friendly version ($14) consists of succulent lobster with al dente vermicelli in a comforting, slurp-worthy broth. Look out for the subtle, tangy notes that come from the dried orange peel!
Other noteworthy dishes from the 1965 menu include Deep Fried “Golden Phoenix” with Spicy Sauce ($48 for 800g) and Stir-Fried Mussels in Soy Bean Sauce and Sambal Chilli ($16), which will no doubt appeal to seafood lovers with their freshness and flavours.
Go back to basics with Oyster Chicken Sauce ($24), which consists of a whole organic Anxin chicken served in a giant steaming basket. The fork-tender meat is flavourful and succulent, thanks to the meticulous preparation method which involves deep-frying, stuffing with chives and garlic, and steaming.
No seafood dinner is complete without a crab or two! The Crab Ala Singapura (Market Price from 1kg) is charcoal-grilled at 400 degrees celsius with melted mozzarella, aged parmesan cheese, creamy French butter, and salt and pepper. Resulting in a deliciously umami crustacean!
Palm Beach has also hopped on the pao fan bandwagon with the Yuan-Yang Seabass Crackling Rice Soup ($16.80). Enjoy this value-for-money option which features fish cooked two ways – boiled or fried!
One thing I really love about Palm Beach is the affordable desserts. It’s hard to believe these beautifully plated sweets barely hit $10! The Fried Durian ($8) is one for the books with its meticulously plated fried mao shan wang durian, which is sinfully rich and paired with refreshing coconut ice cream.
