Pita Tree’s serving Grilled Kebab Wraps & Pitas at Forum Shopping Mall
And all that I can see is just another PITA TREE!
If you often roam the streets along Orchard Road, it is hard to miss this Mediterranean Grilled Kebabs kiosk right outside Takashimaya Ngee Ann City. Day or night, this eatery will be packed with people of all nationalities and all ages, savouring their food and people-watching at the same time.
Rejoice, fans of Pita Tree, as their second kiosk is now open outside Forum Shopping Mall, which is also a stone’s throw away from Orchard MRT!
Just one try of their pitas or wraps is all it takes to understand the popularity behind this joint – I am a total convert and will definitely be returning for more! Unlike other Asian cuisines like Korean or Japanese, Mediterranean food is not the most common in Singapore so I’m really glad that Pita Tree has brought this exquisite taste to the masses and at an affordable price too.
This is a fuss-free kiosk with glass display of live grilling and salad bar filled with fresh lettuce, tomatoes, olives, onions, pickles, jalapenos etc. For customising your vegetables, you may choose to take away your gourmet pita bread and rolls, or snuggle up at the seating area comprising of three tables with high chairs.
You’re in for a treat with their grilled kebabs, seasoned to perfection using high-quality Mediterranean spices, natural herbs and virgin olive oil. Fret not – lean meats with less fats are used so even the health-conscious or gym junkies can enjoy a meal here without any guilt!
To me, you can conquer the world with a great sauce and great ingredients.
Pita Tree did just that for me – it conquered my heart and stomach with its outstanding homemade sauces and fresh ingredients prepared with gusto. It dawned upon me how much time, effort and love Chef Hany Mustafa Basoyuni Gabr and his team have put into crafting these authentic Mediterranean treats as I spoke with him – all the sauces and hummus are homemade.
Made with 9 ingredients, Pita Tree’s special spicy sauce which really packs a punch is his prized creation; “you cannot find this anywhere else in Singapore” he proudly exclaims in his charming accent (except at other Pita Tree outlets that is). A superb blend of garbanzo beans with lemon juice, garlic, tahini and olive oil, their hummus is also bursting with flavours.
Customising your house pita or wraps have never been easier – just choose any 3 toppings and 2 sauces!
There are 5 different fillings, but it was their falafel that got me falling me in love.
True to its name, Authentic Falafel ($11) carried an authentic taste of the Middle East with a splendid mix of herbs and spices. Fried to the perfect golden brown, the exterior presented an irresistible crunch while the interior ball of chickpeas remained soft and moist. The addition of plentiful of white sesame definitely levelled up the fragrance and texture of the falafel! These were literally AMAZE-BALLS! I have never been happier filling up my pocket of pita bread with an abundance of these falafels and fresh crunchy vegetables!
For the meat lovers, take your pick from their Minced Beef ($11.90), Lamb Kufte ($12.90) and Chicken Shish ($11.90). The lean minced ground beef meant that it would not be an oily affair, which allayed my worries.
Both their Lamb Kufte and Minced Beef were nicely seasoned with spices, hence extremely flavourful on its own. I’d recommend you add their spicy sauce as it will greatly mask remnants of any undesirable gamey smell and taste. Certainly a burst of flavours in every bite!
If you find yourself craving for more meats, you can also get their Chicken Shish and Lamb Kufte at $15 a skewer.
Those with a lighter palate or have zero tolerance towards the gamey taste of beef/lamb will be pleased with Pita Tree’s Greek Chicken Avocado ($12.90). Featuring chicken breast cubes marinated with yoghurt and special seasoning, together with a generous scoop of mashed avocado, this creamy treat is bound to create a pleasant dining experience for you.
Open from 11am to 3am everyday (and extends to 6am on Friday, Saturday and eve of Public Holidays), I guess I have found yet another place to grab my late dinners! Certainly a rare gem, I hope this Mediterranean jewel continues to shine brightly along the streets of Orchard Road.
