Pizza Maru Cheesy Korean Pizza & Fried Chicken at Yishun Northpoint City
North dwellers can finally rejoice at the onslaught of F&B outlets steadily opening at Northpoint City, Yishun. The once quiet shopping mall for the surrounding neighbourhood has now gained a ‘South Wing‘ featuring a range of cuisine. One of which is Korean franchise Pizza Maru located at Basement 1.
The popular Korean brand Pizza Maru has over 530 outlets in Korea that specialises in take-away. Its first outlet in Singapore is bound to change the local pizza scene with their unique and healthier pizza dough.
Pizza Maru serves a variety of pizzas, fried chicken, pasta, bibimdap, desserts and drinks.
The must-tries includes the Premium Pizza Range (made with patented Green Tea Wellbeing dough) and the Chicago Pizza Range (made with patented Black Rice dough). Each bite of the pizza gives you a healthier and more nutritious crust. Why not?
The Real BBQ Chicago Pizza ($26.90 for regular 9 inch) comes with double Mozzarella cheese, String Cheese and Cream Cheese Mousse to create that ultimate cheesy strings as you lift that slice up to a height of over 30cm.
Besides the little thrill you are getting here, the feast comes next where each mouthful will fill you satisfyingly with Chicken Chunk, Roasted Onion, Mushroom, Tomato and Potato drizzled with Honey, BBQ Sauce and Almond Flakes sprinkles.
The quality and taste of the pizza at Pizza Maru has definitely gotten a notch higher than its competitors.
For Premium and Classic Pizza, opt for the special crust such as the Gold Edge, Bite or Double Cheese Twist. Recommended is the Gold Edge ($3.20 for regular 9 inch and $5.50 for large 12 inch pizza) which we had as the crust for the Mango Ocean Pizza ($19.80 for regular 9 inch and $23.80 for large 12 inch).
If I had to choose, I would prefer the Gold Edge Crust. While it looks simple, you can actually taste the smooth sweet potato mousse mixed with a light cheesy texture. It is mildly sweet on the palate and not overwhelming when pair with the Mango Ocean that consists of toppings such as the Shrimp, Scallop, Onion, Mushroom, Mango, Black Olive and Broccolli.
The surprise continues to unroll as the bibimdap is presented in a way reminiscent of the N Seoul tower.
Named the Spam Tower $12.80, the ingredients are stacked colourfully with Chicken Spam, Fried Kimchi, Bell Pepper, Onion, Cabbage, Mushroom, Egg, Seaweed in Rice and sprinkled with Crispy Potato, Parmesan Cheese and Siracha Sauce. It is a play on the tastebud with moments of spiciness and sweetness juxtaposed against the crunchy bits. A beautiful mess great for sharing.
You know the joy when you live in the ulu-est part of Singapore and no longer have to travel to town just to satisfy your cravings for Korean fried chicken.
Pizza Maru serves really nasty Korean Fried Chicken with thick crunchy coating and juicy meats.
Spicy lovers really should go for the Supa Hot Dak Gangjeong ($16.80 for 6 pieces and $29.80 for 12 pieces) that comes with a choice of spicy level 1 or 2. Just head straight for level 2 and be prepared for a tongue-numbing sensation. Shiok.
Ever had Onion Tartar ($16.80 for 6 pieces and $29.80 for 12 pieces) on your fried chicken? Slab a portion of this thick and creamy sauce on the wings and simply indulge.
Other flavours include the Honey Butter Coat ($16.80 for 6 pieces and $29.80 for 12 pieces), Honey Garlic Dak Gangjeong, Sweet Chilli Dak Gangjeong, Garlic Dak Gangjeong and Cheese sprinkles.
Bingsu is served in a cute jar. The Poppilicious $10.90 is best suited for those with a sweet tooth with finely shaved Ice, Caramel Syrup, Popcorn and Salted Caramel Ice Cream.
There are also other flavours such as Nok Cha (Green Tea), My Only Sunshine (Mango) and Mudcrack (Chocolate).
