Sama Sama by Tok Tok – Authentic Indonesian Food & Spicy Sambal in Jewel Changi Airport
Overlooking the picturesque HSBC Rain Vortex at Jewel Changi Airport, Sama Sama by Tok Tok blends authentic Indonesian flavours with the comforts of a classy dining setting. The latest F&B concept by Blue Waves Food Empire, puts a sophisticated spin on the ever-popular Tok Tok Indonesian Soup House.
“Sama sama” stands for “you’re welcome” in Indonesian, and the restaurant certainly embodies the spirit of hospitality. Here at Sama Sama, you’ll find authentic dishes made with humble recipes and specially sourced ingredients to pamper your tastebuds with the charms of Indonesia’s culinary offerings and multi-cultural heritage.
Many of Sama Sama’s signature dishes are hearty creations designed for sharing. Start with the Sate Padang ($21), a serving of traditionally grilled Padang-style skewers that draws on the flavours of a whopping 19 spices. The generously sized beef chunks are marinated overnight, before being topped with creamy curry sauce and served with Indonesian rice cakes and beef rinds.
The Rawon Surabaya ($17) is another starter worth mentioning. The comforting, flavourful broth warms the heart with its traditional Javanese herbs and spices, including grounded Buah Keluak. Dip your spoons in for some deliciously tender diced grain-fed beef, with a side of baby bean sprouts, premium salted egg, and deep fried prawn crackers to complete this dish.
Seafood lovers will delight in the Kakap Merah Bakar Jimbaran ($39), which serves up a whole 500g red snapper grilled Jimbaran-Bali style. Accompanied with freshly farmed crunchy cucumbers, tomatoes, kemangi, long beans, and sambal, this one from the sea is best savoured piping hot.
With Tok Tok’s claim to fame being their chicken dishes, expectations were high when it came to the Ayam Bakar Taliwang ($29) and Ayam Goreng Langkuas ($22). Both dishes feature whole chickens that are tender and succulent, thanks to their careful preparation.
The signature Lombok-style method of marinating and spicing lends a slightly sweet, smoky aftertaste to the Ayam Bakar Taliwang, and the Ayam Goreng Langkuas yields a comforting aroma that lingers long after you’ve taken your last bite.
Last but not least, the Nasi Lang ($17) is an elaborately designed dish that is utterly pleasing on the eyes. Traditional Solo-style coconut rice is plated with premium Javanese style curry chicken, spicy stewed tender grain fed beef rind with petai beans, spiced fresh coconut, sliced omelette, tempeh, Javanese beef stew, and house-made sambal.
Don’t miss the Gao Gado ($15) that comes with crispy crackers and their freshly pound and specially concocted spiced peanut sauce!
