SBCD Korean Tofu House – New Tempura Soontofu & Sesame Samgyetang at Millenia Walk

SBCD Korean Tofu House has recently launched a series of new Summer dishes on top of a revamped a la carte menu.

Besides the tempting list of soontofu with ingredients ranging from my must-have Seafood to Oyster, beef, Pork, Intestine and Fishcake, the Kimchi Biji $21.90 is a new addition catering to those who probably live by kimchi. Each order of the soontofu comes with steamy hot stone rice and side dishes of deep fried yellow fish, seaweed, fermented squid, pickled cucumber and more kimchi. The side dishes here are one of my favorite lot across other Korean restaurants, given the range and quality SBCD is serving.

Two new mains include the Unagi $29.90 and Orange Chicken $27.90 which come in generous sharing portions.

On seasonal rotations, the Summer dishes $21.90 are a spun off from the usual soontofu. Introducing tempuras to each soontofu, you can choose to have the Prawn, Chicken Kaarage, Dumpling or Pork Cutlet, eaten on the side or to be dunk into soup.

I have had my loyalty card stamped to the end and beyond; living proof that I have loved SBCD greatly.

My last visit though, was months back; after I relinquished my gym membership and soontofu stepped down from being a post-gym meal. And it was the same time period that the soup base started evolving according to feedbacks, or so I heard.

While I enjoy my soontofu rich and flavourful, the recent ones are a contrast, but still a notch nicer than most I have tried. Crazy Hot level isn’t as spicy as before though I have to say that it is taking better care of my stomach without letting it burn in chilli padi.

That aside, the summer edition portrays these soontofu in a different light. The tempuras are served on the side in their crispy skin, be it the dumpling or the prawn, one bite in and the penned up juices squirted apart.

The dumplings were delicious. I remembered their plump figures from the old menu which are now brought back as a special. Whether same or slightly different, I had them dipped into the soontofu until the soup soaked them up like drenched clothing before devouring them within mouthfuls.

Another highlight is the Sesame Samgyetang $24.90. What surprised me was that instead of the usual milky-looking soup, the soup was actually a thick layer of blended tofu where you could still taste textural bits. The meats were even more jaw-dropping, so tender that they dissolved on my tongue in that instant. You really have to try it to know!

Digging further in, we spotted glutinous rice and dates stuffed within.

Moving on to the mains, the Unagi $29.90 is a must-try. Featuring the thick fleshy eel glazed in sweet soy sauce, these were addictive enough to keep you having one after another.

Orange Chicken $27.90 revealed a mix of tangy and sweet flavours, coming from the glistening sauce on the thick crispy batter. Juicy chicken chunks enveloped within were simply bite-sized goodness.

Do you know that you can end off the meal by adding tea to the leftover rice hugged onto the inner surface of the hot stone pot?
