Stateland Cafe & Brother Bird at Bali Lane: Asian-fusion Food & Soft Serve

Having been to Stateland Cafe during its initial stage of operation till now, I have to say that it is heartening to see how much quality improvements they have made over the years.

I can’t help but notice more thoughts and creations being put into each dish and what used to be ice cream on the menu back then, has evolved into a series of flavoured soft serves.

The flavours of the soft serve change quite often which makes each visit to Stateland Cafe/ Brother Bird exciting. The desserts can also be savoured at Brother Bird Mochi & Softserve Co. located just next door, opened by the same owners as well.

Stateland Cafe offers Asian-Fusion food. Expect surprises with an explosion of flavours you wouldn’t expect possible.

The Hong Kong Style Breakfast $20 is a twist from the usual English Breakfast, featuring Truffle Rice Soup with Poached Chicken and a brioche egg and tomato sandwich with Tomato Chilli Jam. The generous portion make it a really hearty meal too.

The porridge was very tasty; and be sure to stir it well before digging in, so that the faint hints of the truffle could be tasted within each mouth.

Steak and Eggs $22 resembles a french toast stuffed with Beef Sirloin and Caramelised Onion Jam. The egg omelette lying across the toast was surprisingly flavourful with a moist consistency. Topped with Fresh Greens and Sesame Dressing, this is a balanced dish providing you with your daily dietary essentials.

My favourite has got to be the Hainanese Chicken Rice Risotto $20, my second time having this! And it does reminds me of the classic chicken rice, especially with the Soy Braised Chicken and Sriracha Chilli Vinaigrette for an extra spicy kick. Who would expect an Italian staple, risotto, to pair so well with one of our local favourites!

Mentaiko lovers can rejoice with these Mentaiko-based pasta such as the Mentaiko Salmon Pasta $24 and Mentaiko Tiger Prawn Pasta $20. Both pastas came with huge serving of mentaiko sauce spread across the noodles for mixing in. It was all sweet, savoury and creamy at the same time.

Desserts are definitely one of their highlights here.

On the day we visited Stateland Cafe,  the soft serve flavours available were Earl Grey Milk Tea and Taro Milk Tea as part of the Gongcha Tribute Series.

Classic flavour like the Cookie Butter $6 still remains on the menu and you can also pair it with Artisanal Cones (+$1.50) infused with Rose, Citron Coconut, Cinnamon or Matcha.

Be it in a cup or cone, you will be spoilt for choice with other selections such as having it with their Signature Mochi Doughnut $14 or Mochi Bursts $14. The yeasty chewy texture of the mochi doughnuts and mochi bursts are what made it unique from typical patisseries.

For Mochi Bursts, there are also options of Salted EggPeanut Butter or Earl grey and Milk Chocolate. I have always had the salted egg version but the newest addition of earl grey with milk chocolate have me hooked instantly.

What intrigued me is that Stateland Cafe is able to differentiate itself from the mainstream soft serve with the iconic ‘poop’ shape and constant R&D in their soft serve’s texture and flavour, That said, the shape does had an impactful first impression that would certainly make new-comers curious too.

The weekend brunch at Stateland Cafe was an enjoyable one with innovative dish creations. Moreover, prices are NETT and inclusive of a complimentary drink which make it even more worthwhile.

For a cafe where food is served with passion, Stateland Cafe’s popularity can be observed from the seemingly endless queue on a weekend mid afternoon. On a sidenote, almost every table also has an order of the signature soft serve! So do check out for their new flavours occasionally too 🙂
