Straits Cafe At Rendezvous Hotel: New Buffet Boasting Heritage Favourites And Durian Desserts
Straits Cafe at Rendezvous Hotel has recently undergone a revamp, emerging as a vibrant and homely restaurant plastered with bold colours and geometrical designs, while retaining a touch of traditional influence through the displays of heritage hardwares, Chinese baskets and spices.
The 120-seater restaurant has reopened to the public on 9 March 2017, boasting 15 new dishes on top of the buffet line. Expect a whole new range of hot items on the buffet that would leave you salivating. Remember to have some tummy space for the desserts where Straits Cafe offers a delectable spread of durian treats.
With a focus on Penang, Malacca and Singapore cuisines, look forward to new additions such as the cooked-to-order Black Pepper Carrot Cake, Pork Ribs Soup with Cordycep Flower, Red Glutinous Red Wine Chicken Soup, Wok-fried Mee Rebus, Baked Sweet Miso and Lamb Rendang Lasagne.
One of the crowd favourite is the Black Pepper Carrot Cake featuring soft and moist rice cake filled with the eggy aroma.
The Deep Sea King Prawn Crispy Noodles is available as part of the buffet and Ala Carte orders. This dish is Straits Cafe’s rendition of the Sang Har Mee of Kuala Lumpur origin. The thick velvety sauce over crispy egg noodles, wok-fried sea king prawns and scallops lends a flavourful touch to the ingredients. It is a huge dish, well cooked to taste.
Another popular item on the buffet line is the Chilli Crab Crayfish that spots endless replenishment. Topped in a luscious chilli crab sauce that is both sweet and spicy, the crayfish are chunky and fall out of their shell easily.
Another new item is the Braised Pork Belly with Fried Chinese Bun. A very homely dish that you don’t see much in a buffet.
I especially love the Lamb Rendang Lasagne for its uniqueness in having lamb as the filling and the combination of tender lamb bits with the melted cheese.
Besides the new dishes, don’t forget to savour Straits Cafe’s signatures such as the Nonya Laksa and make a beeline for the DIY Popiah, Kueh Pie Tee and Rojak stations.
Carvings of the day are on rotational basis.
Besides the hot food, there are also cold appetizers such as the Jellyfish Shooters, and Seafood on Ice which includes Snow Crab Legs, Oysters, Mussels and Snails.
The durian desserts will please many durian lovers. Take your pick from amongst the Durian Pengat Shooters, Durian Fudge Cake, Mini Durian Tart, Durian Crepes, Durian Eclairs and Durian Puffs.
Indulge in a variety of cakes such as the Tiramisu, Orange Mousse Cake and Blackforest Cake. Round off with some Ice Cream that are worth having as well with flavours like green tea and sesame.
