Tai Er Singapore 太二酸菜鱼 – Popular Sichuan Restaurant for Chinese Sauerkraut Fish

Tai Er Suancai & Fish 太二酸菜鱼 is a popular Sichuan restaurant that originated from China.
There are currently four outlets in Singapore, with the newest branch at 313@somerset. The other three are at Jem, Suntec and Jewel.
Reservations are highly recommended or be prepared to take a queue number and wait. If you are lucky, there might be seats during the non-peak period.
I came by on Friday noon at the Jem outlet and there are seats.
The staff are welcoming and will shout their slogan enthusiastically.

It is a must to order the signature Chinese sauerkraut fish. The Suancai & Fish is available in three sizes – $49 (for 1-2 pax), $69 (for 3-4 pax) and $89. There are toppings, namely Bouncy Tofu $3, Bamboo Shoots $3, Enoki Mushroom $3 and Glass Noodles $3 to add to the soup.
Some other signature side dishes include the Spicy Chicken with Chilli Pepper $28, Poached Sliced Beef in Hot Chilli Oil $28 and Yummy Steamed Chicken with Chilli Sauce $11.
Menu

There is a drawer containing tissues, toothpicks and phone chargers for diners. Also, while waiting for food, you can try your luck at the lots.

Hot free-flow tea with sour plums is available at the counter.

The Suancai & Fish $49 (for 1-2 pax) is served in a large round plate, brimming with succulent fish slices, dried chilli, peppercorns and sauerkraut.
It is rich in flavour, sourish, quite numbing and not spicy. I find the portion to be worth the price and if you have an appetite, it can feed one person too.
The dish is very tasty and enjoyable.

I recently visited the outlet in 313@somerset.
There is a new option for one pax. The Suan Cai & Fish $33 is a good portion for single diners.
The ingredients are generous. There is vermicelli in the soup and a bowl of rice served on the side.
Meanwhile, you can find Tai Er’s doll mascot available at $15 too.
