The Dark Gallery at Takashimaya – New Pastries, Chocolate Souffle & Single Origin Dark Chocolate

The Dark Gallery at Millenia Walk has been one of my favourite dessert place in Singapore. Bearing a menu full of chocolate desserts and drinks, and a counter display of ice cream ranging from the darkest 80% all the way to a 38% milk chocolate, this is wholly a chocolate haven to release the euphoria in you.

The Dark Gallery’s booming success led to the opening of a new cafe and chocolate boutique in Takashimaya. Besides the convenient location with a never-ending stream of passerby, The Dark Gallery flagship store kicks into the dessert scene with a bigger and bolder menu flourished with assorted pastries and innovative drinks using Singapore’s first state-of-the-art Mod-Bar pour-over and steam system.

Hungry shoppers can now grab a bite from the selection of pastries comprising of teacakes, croissants, scone and brioche offered in-store.

The teacakes found a coveted spot in my list of ‘must-tries’. The cake texture was firm yet crumbly, not overly dry and tasted strong in favour. Be it the Chocolate Banana Pecan or the Salted Caramel Coconut, both deserve their own applause.

The Dark Chocolate $3.50 and White Chocolate $3.50 croissants were half dunk in a thick chocolate sauce that hardened at room temperature and would snap under your teeth. Lightly crisp on the surface with a soft buttery inside, these dainty croissants could make a good pairing with a cuppa or two.

Chocolate cakes are a dime in a dozen but The Dark Gallery does a good version of their Signature Dark Chocolate $8 that totally float my boat. The prominent fudgey layers gave rise to an irresistible richness dense in bitter-sweet chocolate. At $8 for a big slice shareable between two or three, it was a satisfying cake I had eaten in a while.

If you are dining in, you might as well order their Signature Dessert Platters Chocolate Souffle $15 and Ice Cream Soiree.

The Chocolate Souffle didn’t disappoint with its pillowy soft mousse-like fillings made from 66% dark chocolate accompanied with a hint of coffee powder. The complimentary scoop of vanilla ice cream merged beautifully with the decadent chocolate – like yin and yang, hot and cold.

Drinks from The Dark Gallery are finely processed using modern machines, Mod-Bar, to render the best brew and milk foam, and eventually a quality drink fit for your royal tastebud.

Recommended is the Frozen Chocolate Cube Latte that comes with a side of hot milk and double shot espresso for you to customise and pour over the chocolate cubes.

Other drinks include the Single Origin Pour Over $6.50, Single Origin Dark Chocolate (hot $8.50, iced $9.50), Chocolate Affogato and 66% Dark Chocolate and non-chocolate ones such as Matcha Latte, Genmaicha Latte and artisanal teas.

Introducing the Four Senses of Chocolate $10, exclusive to the Takashimaya outlet, these drinks come in four profiles; Sucre, Savoury, Spice and Sangria.

The sangria here is not your typical Spanish cocktail but a non-alcoholic version infused with cold-pressed fresh orange juice, bringing an extra zest and refreshing dimension to the overall taste.

This 40-seater cafe is nicely adorned in black and gold elements, furnished with marble table top and minimalist-looking chairs and decor. What differs this outlet to the one at Millenia Walk, is that there is a retail section for merchandises, souvenirs and snacks.

Cold case displays of exquisitely designed tall cakes, multi-flavoured macarons, bonbons and Single Origin Chocolate Tablets are bound to wow and tempt you to bring them home.
