Penang Three Road 888 Hokkien Mee, Presgrave Street Hawker Centre
A trip to Penang is never complete without assimilating into the Penangite’s way of life. If you are staying in the area, do check out the hawker centres that are usually open from the evening onwards. Whether it’s for dinner or supper, you know you are covered for the night with something affordable and tasty, and most of the time just around the corner.
Presgrave Street Hawker Centre is bustling with a hungry crowd on a late Friday night. Even the light drizzle did not deter anyone from cuddling over tables and digging into their piping hot orders from the nearby stalls. Here, you can find the popular Three Road 888 Hokkien Mee and 3888 Fried Oyster (also 3888 蠔煎) right beside each other, alongside other stalls that sell char kway teow, popiah and more.
There was a queue at Three Road 888 Hokkien Mee but it moved fast.
One bowl of Hokkien Mee costs RM5 with add-ons of Egg RM1, Meatball RM1, Intestines RM1, Pork Ribs RM2, Pork Legs RM2 and Roasted Pork RM2.
The Hokkien Mee comes with a good mix of vermicelli and yellow noodles, sliced chicken, mini shrimps, bean sprouts and half a boiled egg. The soup was robust and tasty on its own and accompanied by nuanced bites from the shrimp, I felt comfortably satisfied without over-indulging.
There’s definitely space for something more and here’s where you might want to order from the other stalls!
