TONO Cevicheria (Duo Galleria) – Amazing New Peruvian Menu of Tacos, Fried Cheese Rolls & Potato Salad Stack

TONO Cevicheria‘s upcoming new menu, helmed by head chef Tamara Chavez and team, is taking Peruvian cuisine to different heights. Set to launch by the end of March, TONO at Duo Galleria brings to the table new loaded tacos, Tequenos and a quirky (yet very classic Peruvian) salad stack. Meanwhile, savour the rest of the menu such as their signature ceviche and stir fried beef, paired with a refreshing Pisco Sour one shouldn’t miss out on.

New Dishes

New on the menu is the Tequenos $10, deep fried pastries filled with melty Halloumi and Mozzarella cheese, draped in a velvety smooth Huancaina sauce. Despite its cheesy description, the spring rolls-lookalike are pleasant to have and with some cocktails to go with.

The Causa $28 is a potato and yellow chilli salad, topped off with crispy small shrimps, sprinkles of tobiki and sliced turnips. The surprise lies in the middle where there is a layer of tiger prawn in cocktail sauce that blends really well with the rest of the ingredients. I like that the prawns had a bite to it, which doesn’t make the stack boring.

Whether it’s beef or pork, the tacos here are worth having. My favourite has got to be the Taco Pork $24 for the delicious sounding of the pork crackling. Another alternative is the Taco Beef $25 with a generous portion of sliced beef on a tasty spread of guacamole.

TONO’s Signatures

Need more of the guacamole? The Patacones $10 allows you to spread more of the delicious morsels over crunchy green Plantain crackers.

Looking like a plate of art is the Pulpo “Al Olivo” $28, where the tenderly sliced octopus is accompanied with capers, black olive mayo, chimichurri and crispy garlic.

Noteworthy ceviche dishes include the Ceviche Classico $25 (market fish in tiger’s milk, sweet potato and canchita), Ceviche Verde $28 (prawns, calamari, fish and crab with jalapeño, lime, herbs and corn tortilla) and Ceviche Tono $28 (market fish, crispy baby calamari, purple potato and smoked aji Amarillo in tiger’s milk).

The Lomo saltado $40 is a Chinese Peruvian dish which features stir fried beef tenderloin with tomatoes, crispy garlic chips, onions, coriander and potato fries. It’s remarkably flavourful.

Desserts comprise of the Combinado $13 (vanilla rice pudding with purple corn) and Tres Leches $12 where a compote of pineapple and passionfruit sandwiched between two moist coconut cake is made to resemble macarons.

Wine of the Month ($20 per glass, $98 per bottle): Flechas De Los Andes Gran Malbec 2014
