Wagyu Express by Aburiya – Wagyu Beef Cuts from $15++ in Tanjong Pagar

Wagyu Express is Aburiya’s latest concept that offers fuss-free wagyu yakiniki dining experience along Tanjong Pagar Road.

The menu presents a good range of wagyu cuts, allowing diners to order as individual ala carte portions or platters. These beef are then grilled over white charcoal, also known as bincho.

The Usuyaki Mori ($28, 180 grams), for instance, consists of the following cuts – Top Round, Shoulder and Brisket. It is recommended to grill about 10-15 seconds on each side as the meats would get cook very quickly. Then diners can add some sliced onions onto one side, roll up the meat and dip it into the ponzu sauce before eating.

The Wagyu Jo Karubi ($15, 150g) is one of my favourites. I love beef short ribs as they are usually more flavoursome than other beef cuts, though texture-wise, they could be slightly tougher.

The short ribs come with a housemade garlic butter sauce which could either be used as a spread while grilling or as a dip.

As for the Hokkaido Buta Sirloin $15, they come marinated in miso sauce. The cuts are fattier, tasted sweeter and juicier than the previous.

Wagyu Express’s version of the Wagyu Negishio Yukke $15 features a mount of diced Wagyu Tartare and onions, topped with freshly-chopped Japanese leek, alongside sprinkles of the Ocean Salt from Okinawa.

It is a light and cooling appetiser to start with. Nonetheless, I would love it to be slightly peppery.

The homemade Kimchi Mori $10 is recommended for its trio of cucumber, radish, and cabbage in kimchi seasoning.

Carrot Salad $7

Round off the meal with a refreshing Reimen $11 served in cold tangy soup. It consists of Korean-imported noodles, soft and bouncy, along with spicy kimchi, pork char siew, hard-boiled egg and crunchy shredded cucumber.

Wagyu Express is significantly more pocket-friendly than its sister restaurant, Aburiya. The sides are equally amazing as well. If you are looking for a cosier dining and premium melt-in-the-mouth meat cuts, Aburiya still comes highly recommended.
