Xiang Xiang Hunan Cuisine 湘香湖南菜 – Pickled Vegetable with Fish and Giant Lemon Tea

Opened in 2009, the original Hunan Restaurant 密斯湘菜馆 in Smith Street, Chinatown, has grown and rebranded to Xiang Xiang Hunan Cuisine 湘香湖南菜 with multiple outlets islandwide. Serving a range of Hunan specialties, this home-grown Chinese restaurant is popular among locals, spotting long queues especially during peak periods. When it is crowded, patrons will have to scan a QR code for the queue number.

I visited the outlet in Sengkang Grand Mall on a weekday afternoon. Service was cordial.

The menu offers its top 12 signatures such as the Pickled Vegetable with Fish in Soup $25.90 (U.P. $32.90), Beef with Special Chilli $18.90 (U.P. $19.90), Spicy Bullfrog Pot $36.90 (U.P. $39.90), Claypot Tofu $14.90 (U.P. $15.90) and Homemade Preserved Egg with Chilli $11.90 (U.P. $12.90).

Other highlights include the Hunan Style Stir-fried Pork $22.90 and Cumin Beef $16.90 (U.P. $19.90).

It is recommended to join as a member to enjoy the discounted pricing.

The refreshing 800ml Giant Lemon Tea $3.60 helps to balance the richly flavoured dishes here.

Help yourself to the counter for complimentary Crispy Crust snacks and ice cream (with flavours like vanilla, chocolate and lime).

The Pickled Vegetable with Fish in Soup is served over a stove, thoroughly ensuring a warm dish to the belly.

The golden soup is addictive, salty and made even more tangy with the addition of lemon slices.

The sliced fish are thick and succulent. There are also other ingredients like vegetables, beancurd skin, vermicelli and peppercorn in the soup.
