Your Italian Butler: No-Menu Soulful Italian Food That Makes Your Heart Flutters

Your Italian Butler.
Your Italian-styled Omakase.
Here, there’s no menu. Simply let the chef knows your preferences, dietary restrictions and budget. And you will have each course specially customised for you.

Everything you enjoy on your plate, plus no more picking at your food. The best part? You pay according to what you get and/or set.

If that’s not enough to convince you, surely the dishes below will be worth a trip down for.

True, I can be real picky that I don’t touch certain food I am not keen to have. YET, if the food is appealing enough to make me lift up my fork, perhaps, just perhaps, I would try it. That said, no menu-style has always not been my style. But hey trust me, once you try it, you won’t go back.

Opened on 1st July 2015, Your Italian Butler by Vita Italiana is nestled within one of the shophouses along Mosque Street, and merely a short three minutes walk from Chinatown MRT.

It is a cosy restaurant serving authentic Italian cuisine in an informal and relaxing setting, yet without losing a touch of fine dining.

Upon arrival, I was greeted like an old friend from the entrance and ushered to a seat, feeling warmly welcome. The ‘menu‘ has certain fixed courses to choose from unless otherwise stated. In which, there is a list of beverages to pair your food with.

I went for the 9 Chef Selection ($78++) that came with free-flow red and white wine. This was a promotion during New Year’s Eve (31st Dec 2016) and New Year (1st Jan 2017). Dinner usually starts from $58++ while lunch starts from $28++ onwards.

The first and second courses were served together in what felt like a full-blown appetiser. It was a tantalising portion of Assorted Ham such as the Venetian Ham and Saucisson, and Italian Cheeses on a bed of Salad. Served alongside was some toasted bread drizzled with olive oil. Very tasty by itself.

It was a dish of several textures. The creaminess of the cheeses and crispy breads, together with the savouriness of the ham. While rounding it up with the tangy tomato and salad that whet the appetite.

Next up was the Mussels in Cauliflower Soup. A very light dish that brought out the sweetness of the mussels. I could even taste the grainy bits of the cauliflower in the blend. Yummy.

One of my favourite had to be this Tiger Prawn in Garlic and Italian Spices. The prawn was cooked to a vibrant shade of orange, with meats so tender it sliced through easily. Juxtaposed against the raw bitterness of the rocket leaves, the sweetness of the crustacean could be best savoured.
The fifth course was a piece of Lamp Chop well-grilled with melt-in-the-mouth fats. Together with the charred edges of the lamb and sprinkle of black peppers on top, it was delectable.

On to the carbs!

A hot pan of Pasta was brought to my table and scooped out onto my plate before me. It was quite a generous portion of penne with soft shell crab. Reminded me of eating a chili crab pasta, Italian-styled.

What I truly have to applaud for was that all the cooked dishes were served hot (!). Not cold nor lukewarm. And the dish below even arrived in a hot bowl.

If I have to vote, the Crayfish in Tuscan Seafood Stew won my heart over. This was a special request and it was gladly served to me! No regrets having this. In fact, I don’t mind having it again in my subsequent visit!

The succulent crayfish meat with black truffle was lip-smacking delicious. Equally enjoyable was the stew filled with a sea of squids. Not a big fan of squids but those were cooked to the perfect texture, soft and not chewy. My only wish? If only this was a bigger portion…

I was getting really full by then when the last eighth and ninth course were being served.
Desserts were Strawberry Panna Cotta and Homemade Tiramisu. I had to rave the Tiramisu for its homely taste. A rich Italian dessert done elegantly with layers of mascarpone and coffee-soaked ladyfinger, plus a dash of cocoa powder to top it off.
Of course, not forgetting the free-flow of red and white wine!
I was impressed with my meal at Your Italian Butler. Not only was the food soulful, served pipping hot and of quality, the service was warm and cordial! Really attentive to your needs and my wine never reached the bottom of the glass. We were treated like guests yet also as friends.
At such a price tag, I would say it is really well worth your dollar.
