Yun Nans’ CNY Pen Cai Hot Pot, Truffle Pork Ribs & Ee-Fu Noodles are some of the best festive items we had so far

Back to my favourite Chinese restaurant, Yun Nans, for the Chinese New Year dishes. This year, Yun Nans offers six different set menus (from $298++ to $838++) as well as a 4-course Take-Home Festive Set (from $298++).

The highlight of the meal is none other than the signature YUN NANS Prosperity Treasure Hot Pot 火焰聚宝盆菜 (Regular for 4-6pax: $288++, Large: $438++). Those who have tried this last CNY would be familiar with the goodness of the soup base and premium ingredients within, such as the wild morel, wild golden fungus, sea cucumber, abalone, scallops, prawns, mushrooms, fish maw and cordyceps flowers.

The must-have Prosperity Abalone Yu Sheng ($58.80 for 6 pax; $78.80 for 10 pax) now comes with baby abalone, which you can add on for six more at $29.80.

Some of the items we had from the set menu are the:

“Bi Feng Tang” Style Pork Ribs with Truffles 松露避风塘焗大排 $33.80++: The giant pork ribs were heavenly. The soft fats underneath the crispy skin simply melted away in the mouth. What’s so special about this dish lies in the generous amount of Yunan garlic used to lift the aroma, add an addictive bite and flavour to the pork ribs. We would vote for this to be in Yun Nan’s a la carte menu too.

Traditional Salt Baked Chicken 古法盐焗鸡 (Half: $22.80++, Whole: $38.80++): The ultra tender Kampung chicken meat is a result of a laborious process where the chicken is braised and baked for an hour each in their homemade marination.

Braised Truffle Ee-fu Noodles 松露菌菇煨伊付面 $16.80++: Cooked in Yun Nan’s superior stock of Yunnan ham and old hen, this noodle was truly tastier than it looked. The truffle taste was not prominent. Nonetheless, I find that the flavour of the noodles was good enough to need any additional seasoning.

Steamed Red Grouper 蒸红斑鱼 (Peppercorn or Hong Kong style): The fish we had was cooked in lots of Yunnan-imported peppercorn which popped in your mouth when you bit into it. The peppery taste was fortunately not overwhelming as it was quite light. The texture of the fish was pillowy soft. Thumbs up for this dish.

Desserts were the nourishing Double Boiled Peach Gum and Snow Fungus 安南子炖桃胶雪莲子 $6.80++ served warm and Freshly Baked New Year Pastry 贺岁点心 infused with in an interesting rose filling (Desserts shown are available in all the festive set menus).

The quality and creativity of each dish continue to wow us, especially the Pork Ribs and the simple looking Ee-fu noodles which is unexpectedly delicious.

The CNY items are available from 1-28 February 2021 at Jewel, Westgate and NEX outlets. For collection on the eve of Chinese New Year, the timing will be from 11am to 3pm.
