The 1872 Clipper Tea Co. – Tea-rrific Tea Cream Puffs & Chiffon Cakes at ION Flagship Store!

1872 Clipper Tea Co. has re-opened a beautiful flagship store in ION Orchard with a leafy “photo-booth table” filled with tea-tastic florals, along with a large tea collection. These teas are just as fragrant, if not more! Stepping inside, the gorgeous world map mural at the back will draw your attention to the alchemy-ish surroundings that builds up all the elegance and quirky vibe.

It’s not just about only sipping tea anymore. 1872 Clipper Tea Co. has masterfully re-created a tea-adventure for their customers with their pristine Taj Mahal quartz tables and bar stools, accompanied by an actual tea ‘tap’ that dispenses tea with nitrogen, giving the tea that natural beer-like foam!

The staff also brew the tea in customer’s full view, using copper pots for that because apparently, copper spreads the heat most evenly!

If you are not familiar what tea to order, this activity would make ordering tea a whole lot more fun and less stressful. My friend and I actually did a quiz! It’s called Personalli-TEA! How cute is that?!

We’ll spare you the details of how the game works, but we promise, it’s a lot of fun. After you’ve answered five questions, you’ll be assigned a tea that matches your personality!

Who knew tea ordering could be this fun? Hold it there, don’t read the mini cards here if you want to be surprised.

You can order cold or hot teas, but given the madness of the heat in Singapore, we both opted for iced teas. I was still curious about the hot tea, so I went ahead to order another Roasty Oolong Tea $3.50. Exactly as I thought, it had a slightly toasty taste to it, and if you love oolong, this is your perfect tea fix!

One doesn’t just forget about 1872 Clipper Tea Co’s colourful and delicious tea-infused cream puffs, with its wide selection of flavours, and masterfully subtle flavours (just imagine: Earl Grey, Rose, Matcha, Passionfruit etc). Their tea puffs had just the right kind of texture and airiness, while the tea-infused cream filled my palette with a balanced sweetness!

My friend and I tried Eternal Garden, which was a lovely rose-flavoured tea puff. It was so good that I didn’t leave the soft crusty pink crumbs alone either. I could’ve easily eaten three more of these tea puffs.

They are going at $3.20 per piece or $12 for a box of four (sign me up for this one).

The Matcha Chiffon cake $6.80 was so cakin’ adorable.

It’s got this little tube of green tea sauce which you could squeeze all over the chiffon to make it juicy. The green tea cream and azuki red beans went really well with the chiffon cake. Cutting the cake into halves, we were surprised by the treasure embedded inside! Say yes to more cream and azuki beans!

Their stylish chiffon cakes make traditional chiffon cakes look and taste plain by comparison (though I still love my good ‘ol pandan chiffon cakes). I wish the matcha chiffon cake could be bigger, though. The size was much smaller compared to traditional chiffon cakes – in other words, this would actually be just nice for two petite ladies.

There are four chiffon cake flavours you can try: Earl Grey, Matcha, Strawberry and Yuzu.

As for the Scones ($6 for 2 pieces), they were served with handmade whipped cream and strawberry jam, while making the world of scones proud with their crumbly texture and buttery taste.

These are best eaten with hot tea, really!

This summarises our adventure at the 1872 Clipper Tea Co. It’s a wonderful place to have high tea with your friends or to explore this mini-world of tea-making and tea collections for the sake of curiosity.

Check out their one-and-only tea tap and don’t forget to order those delectable tea puffs (not to be missed!)
