Baker & Cook – New Plant-based Menu and Meatless Plank Sourdough Pizza, only at Dempsey Hill outlet

Opened since July 2019, the Baker & Cook at Dempsey Hill is the brand’s flagship outlet which offers an extensive all-day dining menu, including signature pizzas from Plank Sourdough Pizza and outlet-exclusive plant-based dishes.

*The plant-based menu is only valid from Monday to Thursday, 12pm to 3pm and 6pm to 10pm, as well as Friday to Sunday, 12pm and 10pm.

Featuring a total of six items, the plant-based menu is suitable for vegans and vegetarians while accompanied with a list of vegan wines such as Weemala’s Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz Viognier ($56 per bottle for dine-in, $52 per bottle for takeaway).

We began with a refreshing starter of Baked Baby Heirloom Beetroot $15. Comprising of both baby golden and red heirloom beetroots, these lightly seasoned beetroots are roasted and topped with crunchy seeded rye crisps, walnuts and pomegranate molasses drizzles. This dish is an explosion of flavours and colours, and a beetroot lover’s heaven!

The latter is a mouth-watering burger comprising of the Impossible patty, red onions, tomato slices, sautéed mushroom and vegan truffle mayonnaise (yes, you heard that right!) sandwiched between a pair of delicious homemade eggless buns.

While the truffle is a good addition to level up the taste, the homemade buns had me revelling in the satisfaction of biting into the crispy quinoas that are on the buns.

The Pizza 10 (round, 12-inch for $26; plank, foot-long for $13) is a new flavour on Plank Sourdough Pizza’s menu. The highlight is in its sourdough base, giving the pizza a chewy bite and slightly sourish taste.

Meanwhile, the meatballs are made with impossible meat blended with Spanish onions. I could taste the strong oniony taste in it. The pizza is further topped with mushrooms, cherry tomatoes and rocket, alongside sweet and smokey flavours of barbecue and tomato sauces.
