Bunga Raya Popiah Melaka Street Food with Fried Pork Lard

Bunga Raya Popiah is a mobile van stall that sells only popiah. I found this stall situated just outside Madam King’s Department Store. As it was a afternoon, there wasn’t any queue.

I ordered one spicy version of the popiah RM5. There was a huge pot filled with ingredients where the owner simply ladened onto the popiah skin before wrapping it up. The bundle was then further enveloped in a plastic bag and then newspaper. I was thinking it could be used to keep the popiah from turning cold and limpy.

After all, there wasn’t any seats around hence all the popiahs are for takeaways only.

I was really excited to try this as there was various amount of ingredients added in.

The popiah was piping hot and moist when I bit into it. The fillings were crunchy with the bean sprouts and crushed peanuts. The chopped turnips were soft yet firm, and mingled with the occasional burst of fried pork lards, something we hardly have seen in Singapore’s version of the popiah.

It’s sinfully delicious, hearty and worth standing by the roadside munching on this.
