Capital City JB Cartoon Planet Theme Park with Garfield, Larva & MCM Monster by MCM Studio
Capital City has opened on 17th October 2018 amidst much anticipation.
Labeled as the largest thematic mall in Johor Bahru, Capital City is expecting six full-length floor for dining and retails, alongside theme parks and a museum.
When I visited on 22th October, just some days after its opening, it was as what the media had been reporting. Most of the stores ain’t opened for business yet; pop-ups were seen occupying some of the empty spaces; certain corners of the mall were shrouded in darkness.
I took a short tour around and found myself heading to the 4th floor for the theme park. Many people took the escalator as well, and we ended up at the carpark with no ticketing booth in sight.
Eventually I seek the help of a passer-by who was within the theme park (as we were only separated by the blockage) only to be directed to the first floor.
How to get to Cartoon Planet theme park?
Here’s what you need to know instead of circling for half an hour trying to find the entrance!
Apparently, once you enter Capital City, look out for the sticker markings on the floor.
The words could have been more obvious though! The stickers will lead you all the way to a lift area.
Take the lift to the 4th floor for the theme park.
Exit from the lift and turn right. It’s a short walk to the ticketing booth.
From now till 30th November 2018, you can enter the theme park for FREE!
This is actually something I found out from their banner while I was strolling around the mall.
- Simply download the Capital JB app onto your phone.
- Sign up for an account.
- You will automatically receive one free pass (worth RM 30) for entry into the theme park!
There will be a wristband given which is for us to upload money into it. We can use it to scan and purchase food and go for rides within the theme park.
The thing is that it is required to upload a value of RM 10 into the wristband first. The amount can only be utilised for the day itself.
If you want to top-up (only in multiples of RM 10), there are three top-up booths within the theme park. Spot them!
There is a mini cart for light refreshments like snacks and drinks.
Or you can also grab something from the Garfield Chef Restaurant. The seats further in are not ready, but outside, there are tables bearing the adorable Garfield image. If they are going to serve Garfield-themed food in the future, I can’t wait!
It’s strange why after you still have to pay more to enter the individual activity spaces besides the entrance fee.
It actually cost more for a child than an adult too!
The Family Escape Playland and Larva Underground Adventure World both require RM 42 for a child and RM 16 for an adult for each enter.
There’s this really gorgeous City Of Glass, brightly lit up and filled with Christmas trees, and it costs RM 5 for a 10-minute entry. Oh my ~~ You can stand outside and take photos if you want.
Other highlights include the Harry & Bunnie Magic Wonderland (for magic shows), Dino Extreme Activity Park (for a series of exciting obstacle courses), Educational Larva Activity Room (set in a classroom), Bumper Car and MCM Monster Family Arcade.
The adventure ride looks interesting but it’s not yet opened.
There are a lot of structures good for photo-taking too.
In the middle of it all, there is a giant claw machine filled with plushies. Definitely felt like a kid here looking up at this.
As I still have my RM 10 in my wrist band, I explored the gift store in hope of getting something.
The more memorable ones for keepsake are the Larva characters – Yellow and Red – that come as neck cushion, bags, pencil cases, pouches and keychains. I had to top up another RM 10 to get the Red neck cushion.
If you are here to have a fun-filled experience, you might want to consider the all-day pass only at RM 128 for unlimited entries into most of the rides and activities.
