DePizza’s New 17-pizza menu with Mala spices & Salted Egg flavour familiar to locals
Looking for a good meal and hangout spot with family, friends or colleagues? DePizza is a casual restaurant that is worth a visit because pizzas are just meant for sharing! Just a stone’s throw away from Raffles Place MRT, their simplistic layout with wooden table and chairs creates a chic yet welcoming atmosphere. Alongside the scenic view of the Singapore River, the whimsical fairy lights would definitely contribute to the romantic ambience at night, so now here’s one more place to bookmark for a romantic date.
Of course, all things boil down to its foundation and for pizzas, it has got to be the dough. DePizza makes their own dough in-house, paying great attention to the flour used as well as fermentation process to ensure that they present to diners a pizza dough that is extremely palatable, everytime, anytime. They specialise in thin crust doughs – expect perfectly crispy sides with light and chewy texture. Just the way I like it!
For those who don’t already know, DePizza is a forerunner of fusion pizzas. Their newly revamped menu presents an astounding 17 types of pizzas, so you are bound to find something you like!
Paying homage to the Italian roots of pizzas, DePizza offers classics such as Margherita ($16+; a combination of light and creamy mozzarella, fresh tomatoes and aromatic basil leaves) and Really Cheesy ($20+; a good mix of Gouda, Cheddar, Mozzarella and Parmesan, topped with herbs). Go Under the Sea ($29+) where mussels, clams, tiger prawns and scallops unite in fashion with a fresh mint finish.
I particularly enjoyed All About Them Proteins ($23+)! Featuring a generous amount of chunky meatballs, fragrant bacon, savoury chicken sausages and pepperoni, this pizza will definitely strike a chord with meat lovers! The addition of Jalapeno Peppers added a spicy kick that cuts the heaviness of the meats.
Moving on to the exciting range of fusion pizzas! Hot from the oven is Mala Madness ($24+), DePizza’s newest creation comprising of Mala spice base, spam, bacon and topped with peanuts. I must say that the spice level is extremely manageable, with just a little tongue-numbing effect towards the end. Like the aromatic crunchy peanuts that really reminds me of Mala Xiang Guo! Those who are always game for 大辣 (Mandarin for ‘fiery hot’), remember to request to increase the Mala spice levels for your pizza!
Fans of salted egg yolk are bound to enjoy the Golden Egg Pizza ($24+), which boasts of rich & intense salted egg yolk flavours with their homemade sauce made with real salted egg yolk, chicken and onions, topped with curry leaves and chilli padi. Be sure to devour this while it’s hot for that ideal smooth creamy consistency as the salted egg yolk can get grainy/powdery when cooled.
We can never be done with Singapore’s iconic Nasi Lemak, can we! DePizza’s rendition of Lemak No Nasi Pizza ($24+), which features a sambal-coconut base with chicken chunks, fried egg, crunchy cucumber and ikan bilis, is a winner for me! While I’d prefer a stronger coconut fragrance, this combination just screams ‘SHIOK AH’ (Singlish for ‘satisfying’). Beware of the spicy kick!
Sashimi Pizza ($26+) is their best-seller and it is not difficult to understand why.
This is literally SUSHI ON A PIZZA, even without the fresh salmon sashimi, ikura and nori flakes. Despite not being a fan of mayo, this Japanese mayo base was extremely light & savoury, just like a sushi topping.
Complemented by the freshness of salmon sashimi and popping goodness of ikura, this number was so addictively brilliant that it had me going for seconds! Extremely mind-blowing and totally deserving to be their 镇店之宝 (Mandarin for ‘gem’) as this was my ultimate favourite too! You just have to try this for yourself – highly recommended!
While waiting for your mains to be served, why not give their starters a try? You’d be utterly spoilt for choice here! From soups, salads to calamari and fries, they have it all.
My precious vote goes to the Mentaiko Fries ($12+)! Featuring chunky slices of potatoes which are crisp on the outside yet remain soft and moist inside, these are so divine especially when eaten hot! Slather some of that generous drizzle of super rich mentaiko sauce topped with nori flakes and you’ll be in umami heaven!
Besides their signature pizzas, DePizza also offers a range of affordably priced pasta. Those with a sweet tooth can complete your meal with desserts too and I hereby challenge you to end your pizza trail on a sweet note with their newly introduced Fruit Ninja ($22+)!
A dessert pizza made with peach compote, sliced peaches, blueberries, strawberries and topped with creamy mascarpone, I’d say this is perfect with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
Here’s the menu:
Lucky for those working in the CBD – you can drop by for their very attractive Lunch Combos!
Fret not for those located further away from the city centre, DePizza’s happy hours on weekdays last from 11am to 8pm! How does 1-for-1 beer with every pizza order sound to you? Definitely a sweet deal in my opinion!
While the taste and quality of food are of utmost importance, hospitality and good customer service play an equally pivotal role in the Food & Beverage industry to me. I’m deeply heartened to see that the crew here at DePizza is definitely on the same page.
The young entrepreneurs and brainchild of this pizzeria are really humble folks who welcome and take customers’ feedback very seriously, constantly fine-tuning their recipes to please diners’ taste buds. A casual word with Ben, one of the young owners, revealed the previous night’s frenzy and working overtime till 4.30am as a group of customers stayed on till late and they simply did not have the heart to chase customers away! Now that is what I call delivering excellent customer service and experience, and it’s a testament to their dedication and devotion in bringing good food to people.
Here at DePizza, it’s 比萨味浓,人情味更浓。
