Hawkers’ Street opens at ION Orchard with six famous hawkers you shouldn’t miss!
Access your favourite hawker foods – both old and new – all in one convenient location in the heart of town at Hawkers’ Street. Operating out of ION Orchard, this one-stop spot will treat your senses to six curated hawkers, including Michelin-accredited brands.
While the pushcart hawker culture of old has all but disappeared from Singapore’s streets, diners can sample the same recipes. Dine on local dishes crafted by well-loved hawkers with a rich history in Singapore’s food culture, including: Nam Sing Hokkien Mee, Beach Road Scissors-Cut Curry Rice, Famous Eunos Bak Chor Mee, and the Din Tai Fung inspired King of Fried Rice.
Nam Sing’s Hokkien Mee, which starts from $6, uses thin bee hoon alongside the classic yellow noodles, which lends the dish its unique texture. While the seafood could be a touch more fresh, the mouthwatering flavours of the seafood stock adds to the comfort factor of this dish.
Another noodle stall to look out for at Hawker’s Street is Famous Eunos Bak Chor Mee (from $5), whose 100-year-old recipe continues to draw customers. The seemingly never-ending supply of minced meat lends the broth its robust flavour, and the plump pork dumplings add an unami bomb on your tastebuds. Bonus points for the mee kia staying springy and chewy!
Sample the best of Hainanese cuisine at the Beach Road Scissors-Cut Curry Rice Stall, whose Hainanese curry-drenched plates start from $4.90. The combination of braised pork belly and crispy pork chop is indeed, the best of both worlds for pork lovers.
The “youngest” of the six stalls, King of Fried Rice, needs no introduction. The plump rice is reminiscent of the classic Din Tai Fung recipe, but at more wallet-friendly prices. Enjoy your signature egg fried rice topped with a choice of grilled pork chop or shrimp, priced from $6.90. Or, if you’re feeling extra decadent, opt for that extra topping of tobiko or crabmeat.
For snacks, enjoy delicious Handmade Fried Yam Roll ($2) or Kueh Pie Tee ($4 for 4 pieces) from Ann Chin Popiah. The double-wrapped handmade Popiah (from $2.50) is bursting with goodies, which are surprisingly crispy and crunchy! The exclusion of pork and lard from this healthier rendition of Singapore’s favourite snack means health-conscious customers can snack without feeling too guilty.
Stop by for some Jian Bo Shui Kueh from $3.20. This third-generation stall earned a Michelin Plate in 2019 for its bouncy shui keh topped with delicious chye poh and chilli.
