Komichi Tea House Penang – Japanese Cafe for Good Matcha Drinks, Homemade Cakes & Mochi

Komichi Tea House is a hidden gem along Lorong Toh Aka. Literally a hole-in-the-wall kind of cafe, I walked past twice without noticing the entrance. Even the opened door was obscured behind a half-drawn blind.

Introduced by my Penang friend with a penchant for good, bitter Matcha, I found myself stepping into this humble cafe that could easily double up as a home.

The menu is listed on a chalkboard with various grades of drinks such as the Gyokuro, Kabusecha, and Genmacha. For milk-based beverages, there’s also the Hojicha Latte, Earl Grey Milktea and Limau Wakocha. Prices of drinks start from RM10.

Do pair with some of their homemade desserts as well. The Matcha Purple Sweet Potato Swiss Roll RM10 comes with a thick and very much unsweetened core mixed in mashed purple sweet potato enveloped in spongy matcha cake.

To cool off in the really hot weather, I opted for the Iced Matcha RM12 instead. It’s not bad but I would recommend going for the hot pots of tea to better savour them!

It’s definitely worth a trip back. I am actually keen to try the Matcha ice cream and warabi mochi too.
