KyoChon 1991 Malaysia – Halal Korean Fried Chicken in Johor Bahru City Square

KyoChon 1991, which originated in South Korea, has numerous outlets in Malaysia and is also certified halal to cater to the majority.

The restaurant is known for its Korean fried chicken, available in flavours like Soy Garlic, Honey, Red Pepper and Shinhwa.

There is an outlet in Johor Bahru City Square, near to customs. Having passed by multiple times, I decided to give it a try.

The menu offers fried chicken in various formats – Whole Chicken, Wingette and Drumette, Drumstick and Boneless Chicken Bites.

There are also Kyochon Chicken Combo Sets (from RM20.50), meat-free items like ‘Future’ Nuggets (from RM14.90) and classic Korean dishes such as Kyochon Tteokbokki (from RM14.90).

It took around 20 minutes for the food to arrive despite being the first/second customer in line to order.

The Six-piece Wingette & Drumette Combo RM 25.50 is served with rice, radish, seaweed soup and a choice of drink. I had the Soy Garlic and Red Pepper flavours.

The fried chicken is nicely fried to give it a thin crispy skin and moist, juicy meat. It is also well-seasoned such that every bite is flavourful. However, I wasn’t expecting it to be palm-sized small.

The seaweed soup is missable.

Should there be a subsequent visit, I would probably order a bigger portion of the fried chicken by itself.
