Menya Kokoro’s New Spicy Sakura Ebi/Beef Mazesoba & Curry Beef Don promos in Suntec
You’re in for an aMAZEing time with the MAZE-soba at Menya Kokoro!
If you’re a fan of Japanese food, “Menya Kokoro” should not be foreign to you. With its first Singapore outlet nestled at Eat at Seven’s Japanese Food Street in Suntec City, this Japan’s largest maze-soba restaurant chain has and continues to draw crowds despite the tough competition for business among the many other food choices there.
Serving up bowls of Japanese dry ramen with various toppings and spice levels, the secret behind their success is none other than their commitment in using high-quality ingredients for their dry ramen, the formidable culinary skills of the chefs, as well as constant efforts to introduce new flavours to meet the insatiable demands of diners. Staying proudly a constant is their thick springy soba noodles made with multi-grain flour in house daily, which renders a very pleasant chew. Of course, dons made with fluffy Japanese rice are also available.
This May, Menya Kokoro has expanded their menu by proudly introduced not 1, not 2, but 3 new flavours for their popular maze-soba!
New on the block is Spicy Sakura Ebi Maze-soba ($13.80), which features a splash of the vibrant orange tobiko atop a perfectly runny onsen egg, fresh and crunchy sakura ebi that has a sweet profile, complemented by savoury fried whitebait tossed with XO sauce and dancing bonito flakes.
Of course, this bowl cannot do without their signature minced meat sauce, garlic and ground saba fish powder. Complete with some fresh greens (chopped spring onions and chives), it was a burst of flavours in every bite.
This contains a spicy kick as well so those who can’t handle spice well might want to share this with a friend! Perfect for those with a stronger palate as it is extremely robust in flavours!
Those who simply love their meats will be delighted with the new Tokyo Beef Maze-soba ($15.80), which features thinly sliced beef slices that were sufficiently tender. I would have preferred the beef slices to be thicker for a nicer mouthfeel, but the flavourful marinate made up for it.
With a good balance of meats (with both their robust-tasting minced meat sauce and beef slices) and vegetables in this bowl, this definitely was a worthy uplift of the original maze-soba.
As for the new Curry Beef Maze-Don ($15.80), the sweet Curry sauce doused on the fluffy white rice and beef slices really carried the bowl very well. It looks ordinary but trust me, it tastes so good that I couldn’t resist having a few more mouthfuls of rice!
Japanese Oden ($4.80) proved to be a lifesaver when the soba/don started to feel a bit heavy. The light and refreshing shoyu-based dashi broth helped to cleanse the palate before you continue tucking into the mains.
Together with authentic oden ingredients like soft daikon, chikuwa, satsuma-age (fried fishcake) and konbu (seaweed), this was indeed a tummy and heart-warming bowl!
Tamagoyaki got a fancy makeover here at Menya Kokoro! Mentai Tamagoyaki ($4.80) will get those with an adventurous taste bud satisfied with a good mix of sweet and savoury. I felt that the bonito flakes sprinkled atop stole the show as the smoky savoury taste was extremely distinct as compared to the mellow sweetness of the omelette which was really faint. The mentaiko flavours could definitely be stronger to make a point.
Texture-wise, the fried batter made this a firm chunk that was reminiscent of fried beancurd – I would love it to be softer and moister like an original tamagoyaki.
Just when you thought it can’t get any better, here are some PROMOTIONS to light your eyes up further!
For the month of May, enjoy 50% off your 2nd bowl of Maze-soba or Maze-don (lower-priced bowl) when you order any of the 3 new mains! Definitely worthwhile to visit them Mon-Thu, 5.30pm-9pm to enjoy this offer (not applicable to eve or on Public Holidays).
For those who wish to unwind after a long day at work, enjoy their Asahi Happy Hour Special with their “Buy 2 get 1 Free” or “Buy 6 get 4 Free” offer! I say it’s time to head down with your friends and colleagues for a drink!
You’d be utterly spoilt for choice with so much to try here. Looks like you’ll need to make a few more trips down to savour all these amazing maze-sobas while they last!
