Monga Fried Chicken by Famous Taiwanese Celebrity Nono opens in JEM
Taiwan’s popular street snack is often synonymous with the huge fried chicken cutlet one would eat when in Taiwan. Good thing is, this well-loved fried chicken is here in Singapore. Located at Jem, Monga is a brand created by famous Taiwanese comedian Nono and co-partner Liu Mingdao, offering Taiwanese-styled fried chicken in three flavours and light bites such as fries and nuggets.
The Taiwanese fried chicken chain is named after the Wanhua district of Taiwan, also traditionally known as “Monga”. Monga has over 45 outlets in Taiwan and several in overseas markets like Canada, the U.S.A, the U.K., Philippines and Malaysia.
Highlights of Monga’s fried chicken are the extra thick (at least 2cm thick) and tender chicken fillets. Chicken breast meats are used and marinated in honey (instead of the typical granulated sugar) which gives the meat the tenderness after cooked.
The chicken is double-fried in an optimum amount of batter, resulting in a super crunchy crust that I absolutely adore.
Menu
The fried chicken flavours are:
The King $6.90: original salt and pepper seasoning
Hot Chick $6.90: chilli paprika powder hand-made from Anaheim peppers
The Taiker $6.90: Japanese sauce and seaweed powder imported from Okinawa
The snacks are worth trying too.
The bite-sized Monga Nuggets ($5.90 for six pieces, $7.90 for nine pieces) are juicy with thin crispy skin, while the Sweet Potato Fries with Plum Powder $3.50 are addictive enough.
Some others include the crackling crispy Fried Chicken Skin $3.90, Seaweed Fries $2.90, Fried Broccoli $3.50 and Fried King Oyster Mushrooms $3.90 that sound equally appetising.
Complete your meal with the refreshing Orange Green Tea $4.50, Grapefruit Green Tea $4.50 and fragrant Osmanthus Oolong Tea $3.30 too.
