RWS Street Eats 2019 with Asian Delights like Lobster Nasi Lemak, Beef Pho, Tom Yum Noodles & Creme Brulee Churros
Has it been a dream to savour the delicacies from over Asia all in one place? Well, your dream might just come true at ‘RWS Street Eats’! Returning with a bang for the 3rd year, specially curated dishes from Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and Taiwan will be gathered under one roof at Malaysia Food Street in Resorts World Sentosa to excite your taste buds!
Take your time to roam the 24 stalls between 3 to 12 May 2019 that will leave you spoilt for choice!
New on the block is Projek Nasi Lemak from Penang ($28), levelling up the nasi lemak that we Singaporeans are well-acquainted with by adding a chunky cheese-baked lobster with firm flesh!
Served on a traditional banana leaf is a bowl of fragrant coconut rice donning a beautiful blue hue from butterfly pea flowers, crunchy peanuts, crispy ikan bilis, tangy pickled cucumbers, aromatic fried egg and sambal chilli!
Besides lobsters, you can also choose to have nicely grilled yellow fish ($8.50) or eggplant ($8.50).
Fans of Malaysia fare can also look forward to perennial favourites such as Penang Lim Brothers’ Char Koay Teow ($8.50) with pleasant wok hei, the “black beauty” Jalan Alor Star KL Hokkien Mee ($8.50), Sempalit Curry Chicken ($8.50) that is extremely lemak, and Hong Cha KL Pork Noodle ($8.50) for a superb bowl of noodle soup. Huen Kee Claypot Chicken Rice ($11, +$1 with salted fish) and Klang Herbal Bak Kut Teh ($11) will warm your tummies.
Sawadee Krup~
How about we head further north to The Land of Smiles to enjoy a piping hot bowl of Thailand Tom Yum Mama Noodles ($9)? Full of essence from the plethora of fresh seafood used, the sour and spicy broth was super rich and robust, which will definitely whet your appetite!
Coupled with handmade noodles that are so bouncy with a firm bite, this sure made a mouthwatering bowl with its broth that packs a punch! Not for the faint-hearted or this will surely make you break a sweat!
Do not miss the Zong Khamoo (braised pork leg) at $8.50, which features pull-apart tender meats in herbed savoury gravy. The soft chewy skin boasts of so much collagen that will surely attract the ladies! These two Thai dishes were my favourite main courses!
Catch acclaimed Top Chef Vietnam 2014 finalist Steven Long live in action preparing his signature Beef Noodle Pho from Vietnam ($9)! Generous amount of beef slices and silky smooth pho in a light yet flavourful broth, you’ll have an unPHOgettable time here with this yummy bowl of piping hot pho, best to chase away the chills of a rainy day! While the slices of beef shabu-shabu were thin and tender, the chunky beef shank was overly tough for my liking.
Scoot over to Waroeng Kita from Jakarta, bringing you their East Javanese style Ayam Penyet Belado (smashed fried chicken with spicy sambal) at $8.50! Just who can resist some perfectly crispy chicken fried to golden brown – I sure couldn’t!
The well-marinated and meaty chicken thigh was tender and moist, making it a satisfying experience chomping down the meats! Don’t be deceived by that spam of chilli – it is not spicy at all! Perfect for those who can’t handle spice well but it sure was a miss for me. It would definitely be more shiok if the chilli carried a fiery kick!
Missed the Shilin Night Market which recently concluded due to the crazy long queues?
Good news – you can catch some Taiwan treats here at RWS! If you’re bored of the usual braised pork rice and oyster mee sua, RWS has thoughtfully brought in eats that could be new to you. Try Taiwan’s Bamboo Sticky Rice from San Wei Qiao ($5), which is almost like a mix of Singapore’s Lor Mai Gai and Fan Choy! Certainly enjoyable digging into the soft sticky rice topped with minced meat drenched in thick savoury-sweet sauce.
Those with a lighter palate will be equally delighted with Mee Lang’s Dan Zai Noodles ($8.50), a down-to-earth bowl of noodles that is simply comforting.
You’re probably stuffed by now but hey – no meal is complete without some desserts right?
Have a taste of home by tucking into the wide array of Nyonya kuehs from Molly’s Kueh, or up your IG-game by laying your hands on the handmade floral jelly cakes from Wishing Upon a Cake (heart-shaped at $15, box of 2 mini flower domes at $16).
Those with a sweet tooth will find joy in those freshly made churros with gourmet sauces ($5) by Churros Republic.
We tried their most popular Crème Brulee Churros ($9) and it sure did not disappoint! Featuring handcrafted churros, homemade custard, caramelized sugar, topped with a sprinkle of icing sugar, blueberries, strawberry jam and vanilla ice cream with caramel sauce drizzle, this was certainly the BEST way to end the food trail on a sweet note!
If you’re looking for a lighter treat, go for Mango Passionfruit Soft Serve ($6) or Durian Soft Serve ($8) by The Wicked Cream Co.!
You can also bag some Win Win snacks and Tupperware home, perfect for your late night snacking! Sampling and discounts are available so just drop by and take a look – who knows, you might find a good buy!
Are you ready to feed your hungry tummies with these tantalising regional delicacies? Hurry grab your family and friends and head down before this street food extravaganza is over! Oh, did I mention that it is free entry? You may purchase your coupon booklet for purchase of food items conveniently online or ticketing booths at RWS.
