Shi Shang Lao 食尚捞 Singapore Lok Lok from Conveyor Belt
Shi Shang Lao 食尚捞 Steamov is Singapore’s first of a kind lok lok where you get the ingredients directly from a conveyor belt. No need to order from a chit sheet. Instead, everything here is self-service.
Located near Outram Park MRT, Shi Shang Lao’s interior looks like a grand room with high ceiling and chandeliers. There is a long table where diners sit facing the conveyor belt in the middle and can simply pick the skewered ingredients they want. On the other side, it can cater to bigger groups of four.
You will be spoilt for selection with 10 kinds of soup base, over 100 types of food and more than 20 different drinks!
You can also rent a portable powerbank to charge your phone at only $1 for 24 hours (with $10 deposit).
The 10 types of soup include the Extra Spicy Pot, Fragrance Pot, Herbal Pot, Triple Taste Pot, Spicy Pot, Tomato Pot, Herbal Duck Pot, Mushroom Pot, Sour Vege Fish Pot and Mushroom and Black Chicken Pot.
The skewers are affordably priced at $1 per stick. Premium sticks go at $3.
Now there is an opening promotion where each stick is $0.75. Every item at Shi Shang Lao is 25% off until 15th October 2017 (information is correct as of 1st October).
Maggie mee lovers will be thrilled to know that you can pile on as much carbs as you like. My friend here had three servings!
The Tomato Pot (above) was a tangy and refreshing soup. I had the Fragrance Pot (below) which, as compared to the tomato pot, was more suitable for boiling your skewers in than drinking. The spicy level was ok for me but I would definitely go for the Extra Spicy Pot the next time.
Herbal Duck Pot was surprisingly nice and a safe choice to go with the food.
Sitting just beside the conveyor belt made me really excited and tempted to simply pluck every stick out of their container. There are all sorts of ingredients you can find here ranging from the fried balls, tofu skin, assorted mushrooms, vegetables, eggs to meats like beef, chicken wings, pig’s liver and seafood such as squid, sotong, salmon and prawns.
As if all this is not enough, we even went on to Ala carte and got the Sliced Pork Bellies $8. At $10, you can also get Beef Rolls which is rather worth the money for the proportion.
The pork bellies were sliced very thinly so they got cooked very fast.
We also mixed and matched our sauces.
We paid around $10 plus for the three of us. The dining concept is a rather unique and memorable one. Food wise, there are many choices though I hope that there would be more shellfishes like mussels and clams in the future too. The crowd was pretty good on the Thursday night we visited. Service was really friendly though they seemed a bit short-handed.
Oh yes and we are planning a return trip already; I can’t wait!
