Sin Heng Kee Porridge – Best Congee and Claypot Frog in Hougang
Sin Heng Kee Porridge takes the lead as one of the best congee spots in Singapore. There are currently three outlets, namely in Hougang, Chong Pang and Toa Payoh.
The Hougang branch (main) is situated in a coffee shop shared with a drink stall. There are numerous customers even on a weekday afternoon. Order is made directly over the counter and the food will be served to your table.
The congee is made in-house and comes with various ingredients like meatball, pork liver, sliced fish, cuttlefish, sliced abalone, century egg and peanuts.
Prices start from $5 for a bowl. The Signature Porridge $7.50 has a bit of everything like sliced pork, meatball, intestines, cuttlefish, fish, century egg, liver and chicken.
There is also Claypot Frog (from $10) available with porridge or cooked in Dried Chilli or Ginger Onion.
Another signature is the You Tiao $1.20 to complement the porridge.
Menu
The Minced Chicken Porridge $5 (with Egg $0.50) is laden with minced chicken and sprinkled with crispy shallots and chopped spring onions.
The porridge is unbelievably tasty – gooey, flavourful and moreish. It is a hearty, comfort meal perfect for any time of the day.
The Claypot Dried Chilli Frog ($10 for One Frog) is equally satisfying. The frog meat is chonky and tender. The sauce is not really spicy.
