Soi Thai Soi Nice – New Thai-Teochew Fish Head Hotpot & Seafood Porridge

Thai cuisine is more than just Tom Yum Goong and Pad Thai. If you have been to Bangkok’s Chinatown, you would find a good range of aroi mak mak Thai-Teochew delicacies along the streets. These dishes are inspired by the migrant Teochew merchants who used to populate the Samphanthawong District’s Chinatown, encompassing both Thai and Teochew flavours.

At Soi Thai Soi Nice, you can experience the taste of the Royal Thai Fish Head Hotpot ($38.80++ for 2pax) and Royal Thai Seafood Porridge ($38.80++ for 2pax), similar to Bangkok’s too. Besides these two newly launched items, the other Thai-Teochew dishes include the Braised Pork Knuckle ($18.90++), Thai Gong Bao Crab ($24.90++), and smoky Grilled Whole Squid ($15.90++).

Resembling the local favourite lobster porridge, Soi Thai Soi Nice’s version of the Royal Thai Seafood Porridge comes with a medley of succulent seafood, from the flower crab, prawns, mussels and shellfish to squids and Red Grouper fillet. Additional ingredients such as whole lobster ($16++) and fish slice are available too.

Choice of soup bases comprises of the Yam Fish, Tom Yum Red and Tom Yum Clear.

Compete with the broth-soaked rice, this is comfort food at its best.

On the other hand, the Royal Thai Fish Head Hotpot presents an entire fried fish head (chopped before serve), surrounded by a pot of mussels, enoki mushrooms, tau kee, flower clam, deep-fried egg tofu and round cabbage in yam fish soup. Other soup base options are the Tom Yum Red and Tom Yum Clear.

For illustration purpose

Meat lovers rejoice in the hearty Braised Pork Knuckle ($18.90++) drenched in flavoursome dark sauce. Perfect for sharing and pairing with a bowl of rice.

One of my favourites is the Waterfall Deep Fried Pork Belly ($13.90++). Each strip of pork belly boasts a good fat to meat ratio while the spicy sauce is tangy with a fiery kick.

Round off with Soi Thai Soi Nice’s signature dessert, the Coconut Ice Cream with Sticky Rice ($8.90++).

From 5 September 2019 onwards, Soi Thai Soi Nice at the Seletar Mall will be serving the exclusive Royal Thai Mookata ($38.80++ for 2pax) up till 3AM! Please check in-store for more details.
