Tsujirihei Honten Singapore – Uji Green Tea Baumkuchen & Matcha-Hojicha Ice Cream
Every Tsujirihei Honten pop-up is worth waiting for and visiting. For several times a year, they would occupy a space at basement one of Takashimaya Food Hall, usually during festivities or Japan fair.
In my opinion, they are one of the best in Singapore to sell matcha-infused desserts. If you like the bitter and intense flavour of Uji matcha in your ice cream, cakes and biscuits, Tsujirihei Honten will not disappoint.
This period, Tsujirihei Honten will be in Singapore till 15 September 2019. So hurry down for a good matcha fix!
As an avid fan of their Matcha and Hojicha duo swirl soft serve ice cream $7, I would always order this each time they are here. Despite their rising popularity in Singapore, I am glad that there is no further increase in price point and the quality remains consistent since day one.
Sometimes, the staffs would give an extra treat (such as the Crunchy Chocolate) along with each order of the soft serve ice cream. On the other hand, if you enjoy these little samplings, you can purchase them individually over the counter.
During the pop-up, I spotted the Uji Green Tea Baumkuchen (or Kyomatcha Takebaum) on discount. From a $17 4-piece cake set, it became $20 for two sets of the 4-piece cake. It was understood from the staff that the ones sold in plastic packaging are meant for personal consumption while the ones kept in their cylindrical boxes (also pricier at $28) are usually for gifts. While stocks last.
Each Baumkuchen ring is as good as it looks. The cake is dense yet not overly dry, and strong in matcha flavour (you can tell from its intense dark green colour!).
The portion is super generous where each piece is about 8cm in diameter and 4.5cm tall. This can make a filling breakfast. No regrets buying this!
