Wattana Panich Beef Broth, Bangkok – Traditional Beef Noodle Soup and Goat Stew
Known for its beef soup and goat stew, the famous Wattana Panich Beef Broth restaurant has a giant pot that has been simmering for close to 50 years. Piled high with lots of meats and other ingredients, the giant pot is definitely eye-catching and filled me with anticipation.
I arrived at 10AM plus on a Friday and the restaurant was about half filled. It was hard to cross the road (there were lots of vehicles) and I was on the opposite side of the restaurant. Also, it was almost impossible to get a Grab nearby to leave the premise.
The menu offers 13 dishes, including the signature Goat Stewed in Selected Chinese Herbs and Noodles served with Sliced Beef, Stewed Beef and Beef Balls (in dry or soup version). I had the latter with fine noodles and in soup version.
Soup was pleasantly light, yet umami. The bowl brimmed with tender sliced beef showing hints of pinkness, melt-in-the-mouth beef tendon and chewy meat ball. Despite the amount of meats, there was no unpleasant, beefy taste. You can also add some chilli flakes to spice it a little.
Portion is decent for small appetite.
