Ikan Bakar Tampin 驰名淡边铁板烧鱼 – JB BBQ Restaurant for Sambal Stingray, Lala and Soft Shell Crab

As seen from their Google review, Ikan Bakar Tampin is a popular BBQ restaurant in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

At ten minutes to 5PM on a Sunday, the restaurant was almost full house with a wait time of an hour. It appears that many customers have arrived before the opening time.

The ingredients are laid out at the counter for you to choose. There is a wide variety of fishes including the crowd-favourite Stingray (RM9 per 100g), Sotong (RM9 per 100g), Flower Crab (RM9 per 100g), Crayfish, Prawns, Otah and Lala, as well as Vegetables.

It is recommended to arrive early, as there is a long queue from evening onwards.

Fortunately, the food arrived exactly one hour after ordering.

The BBQ Sambal Stingray RM26 comes in a generous portion. The sambal is rich in flavour and slightly spicy. The fish is meaty but rather tough.

The Lala in Fried Ginger and Onion RM17 and Flower Crab in White Pepper Sauce RM23 are equally tasty too. Nonetheless, the latter is not as peppery as I thought.
