LiXin Teochew Fishball Noodles at Food Opera, ION Orchard (Michelin Guide)

LiXin Teochew Fishball Noodles has been awarded Michelin Bib Gourmand for 2022. With 13 outlets islandwide, in food courts and as standalone stalls, LiXin Teochew Fishball Noodles has come a long way since 1968.

They are famous for the bouncy fishball, fish cake and fish dumplings, all handmade by hand with yellowtail fish.

One of the outlets is located at Food Opera in ION Orchard. There is always a never-ending queue (also the stall with the longest queue) during lunch time and many of those queuing seems to be tourists too.

Finally during lunch time, I decided to give it a try. The queue moved fast and order was swift.

The menu offers various noodles and the respective ingredients in both dry and soup version. You can go for the popular Fishball Noodles $6.50 or the Signature Noodles $8.30 for a taste of everything. There are also sets ($10.50 – $13) available which include your choice of one side.

I had the dry Fishball Noodle with bee hoon. It is served with a bowl of six fishballs. The fishball is tasty by itself, firm yet springy, soft when bite through it. The noodles comes with a variety of sauces mixed in together, bits of lard and chopped green onions. It is quite saucy and on the sweeter side. There is chilli added but it is not spicy. Taste-wise, I thought it is rather one-dimensional.
