Matang Seafood 马登瓦煲海鲜鱼粥, JB Malaysia – Comforting Seafood Claypot Porridge and Kam Heong Crab in KSL City Mall

Matang Seafood 马登瓦煲海鲜鱼粥 is a Chinese seafood restaurant in KSL City Mall, known for its seafood porridge, steamed and fried seafood dishes.

The porridge is served in a claypot along with various ingredients that can be added. You can choose the size based on the number of diners.

The signature Claypot Seafood Porridge (from RM135) comes with crab, fish, prawn, sotong, scallop, lala, fish ball and minced pork.

Other combinations include the Abalone Seafood with Minced Pork Porridge (from RM305), Claypot Fish Porridge (from RM16.50), Claypot Prawn Porridge (from RM16.50) and Claypot Fish Head Porridge (RM10 per 100g).

Elevate the pot by adding ingredients ranging from vegetables, mushrooms and fish balls to sliced meat, live crab, fish, and even oysters. 

Chopped chilli and garlic are available on the side too.

It is like eating hotpot but in claypot style.

The Claypot Fish Porridge (RM16.50 for one pax, Add Lala (RM4.90 for 50g)) has enough rice for two with a few slices of fish. The fish tasted alright. The soup is umami and tasty. I read from the menu that the soup is prepared by simmering pork bone and ikan bilis for five to six hours so as to attain its robust flavour. I would recommend getting the bigger pot with more seafood or adding on more ingredients for a heartier experience, perhaps.

Live crab is used for the Kam Heong Crab (RM106, around 600g). The crab meat is fresh and succulent, nothing mushy. Nevertheless, I wish that the sauce could be more flavoursome and fragrant.

All in all, the meal was decent but not so memorable.
