Before we dwell into the exciting part of family-bonding, let’s not forget to fill our mummies’ tummies with a whole range of delicacies. Aptly titled ‘To Mum, With Love‘, Royale Restaurant’s buffet lunch is specially dedicated to all mums with a plethora of seafood, asian and western delights, signature dishes and desserts.
Revel in the Seafood on Ice such as the Alaskan Snow Crab, Live Oyster, Sweet Poached Prawn and Manila Clam. The Alaskan Snow Crab is a mandatory must-try; thick chunky crab meats ladened with a natural sweetness that would have you scurrying back for seconds and thirds.
The Double Boiled Ginseng Chicken with Wolfberries and Red Date would float your boat if you are a fan of nutritious comfort soup. Dim Sum lovers can have your fair share of indulgence with the exquisite Scallop Siew Mai, Har Gow in chewy translucent wrapper and a fragrant Steamed Glutinous Rice in Lotus Leaf.
The killer dish is the made-to-order Oven-Baked Slipper Lobster with Mentaiko Sauce. The mentaiko sauce made an agreeable pairing with the supernaturally tender flesh, further torched on the surface with charred kisses and slightly molten texture. I didn’t even have to scrap the slipper lobster to its shell; it simply slid off as easily as it would have fit into a right-sized shoe. Taste-wise, it was a well-balanced of sweetness combined with tiny bursts of flying fish roes. It’s worth it.
It is a tough choice to choose between the Slipper Lobster or the Braised Beef Cheek with Madeira Wine. Both are dishes from different categories and I have to say, each has its own calling.
The beef cheek was so fork-tender they did a curtsey in my mouth. Accompanying underneath it was a mould of truffle potato mash that could be creamier and smoother, except that truffle is my bias and I am going easy on it.
There’s also more food to try like the Pan-Seared Duck Breast with Honey and Glazed Pears and Penne Pasta with Basil Tomato Sauce.
Oven-Baked Salt Crushed Whole Seabass Fillet is the highlight of the day where the chef gave us a live demonstration, cracking the salt crust apart to reveal a whole seabass beneath.
Of course, wine packages are available since it’s an occasion that calls for merry.
Desserts is a lavish affair when you get to relish in the signature Durian Creme Brulee and Bird Nest Egg Tart, both local favourites that are bound to be popular targets. The Durian Creme Brulee won my heart with its silky soft texture and pungent durian taste. It’s very much on the sweet side but there’s no turning back once you choose to go down that path.
